Jones gave it his best shot I think. When you are done, you are done. And Roy defines done.
Jones showed up just for a paycheck!

I keep seeing people say that "he tried his best". How is that, if all night Calzaghe was standing right in front of him with his hands at his side, and Jones just covered up against the ropes. Yeah, he tried his best alright.....Tried his best not to get KO'd, but he didnt try his best to win the fight.
Jones never seemed fired up for this fight from the get go. In the 24/7 countdown, he seemed kind've "blah". I dont think he took this fight serious at all.
So tell me guys. What did u see in Jones for u to say that "he tried his best"? Cause to be honest, if a guy isnt throwing any punches, how is he even trying???Comment

I don't see how you can say Roy didn't fight to win. He couldn't do it cuz he was gettin whooped. He didn't look like he was just goin thru motions last nite. he was havin trouble gettin off due to Joe's speed and his eye slowed him down in late rds.Comment

i dont think roy went all out at all
i think he could have sat on some punches and pushed calzone back also he could have kept his hands up to avoid the cut as he doesnt have the reflexes anymore simply to dodge all punches like neoComment

Roy can't fight like he used to, and he realizes it. He's too old to go all out and not get TKO'd.Comment

I completely disagreee with the post. Early in the fight whenever Roy tried to get aggressive and counter off Joe's attack he got nailed right back. Roy has never experienced getting beat to the punch like that with consistency and he didnt know what to do. Also as he said in his corner to his trainer. His trainer said throw the straight right hand, and Roy said, " He keeps ducking them"
Had Roy gotten even more aggressive despite getting consistently beaten to the punch he would have gotten knocked out. His punches were to slow and Calzaghe could see them coming a mile away and was able to counter right back with ease.Comment
