The American media mostly resents Euro fighters. Lennox Lewis was pissed on for years so it's not a white/black issue.
He certainly was. Harold letterman said in the middle of Lewis fight with Frank Bruno that Lewis "throws his right hand like a girl". Ron Borges had so much hatred for Lewis that it was funny. Yet he loved Holyfield. Many do the same to the Klitschko's that they did to Lewis. Larry Merchant is the most fair in my opinion. But anybody who hinks it's a black/white thing is delusional.

Pacquiao and Margarito are two of the most talked about fighters on these forums. There are more Pacquiao and Margarito nuthuggers here than Mayweather nuthuggers.

Tunney is upset that they don't make more Marat Mazimbaev threads around here.

Anybody that can't see the prejudice and hatred that's been directed toward Joe Calzaghe here at boxingscene since he defeated Jones is either extremely ****** or a liar.

There must be at least 30 hate threads and 3000 hateful posts about Joe in two days!

What's been happening since that fight is the perfect example of what I was saying, and makes the answer to this thread as obvious as an elephant in a room!

most every top fighter gets both overly nuthugged, as well as trashed by a group of morons. it's nothing new, and happens in all sports. is some of it racism? sure, but it is on all sides. you will get some whites that hate a fella because he's black, vice versa, and etc..............big deal. people will always hate for various, and numerous reasons. the key is to stop crying about it, ignore it, and be bigger than that yourself.

I don't think it's discrimination but it's a failure of the american networks to display the best fighters and build them into stars. As it is today they'd rather pay for boxings seniors tour than try to built new stars regardless of their origin.

This can ultimately lead to a recession for our sport as the level of talent is diminishing in the US and peaking in eastern europe.

i dont know if they are discriminated against, but they certainly seemed to be scrutinized more. but the simple fact for that is we're often not as familiar with them or their opponents. so i can understand why, i am sure the same thing happens across the pond as well.

I agree, that some American media refuse to give full credit to the European champions.

It's hard to give full props to Mikkel Kessler when American TV viewers have only seen him twice, and one was in a losing effort to a fellow European. If they could get a closer look against a universally recognized and respected fighter, people would be talking about him differently.

Let's be fair, how many people have seen Anthony Mundine and Marcus Beyer enough to regard those as eye-popping wins? The talent is there but the recognizable wins aren't. Atleast from a world standpoint.

The way they treated Lennox Lewis, that was unfortunate. Arthur Abraham did himself no favors for the way his brother behaved on American soil.

But yeah Tunney is insecure and feels that people are trying to oppress him.
