What's so wrong w/ Joe staying at 168 for the majority of his career?

Because of how high each jumped and when they did it compared:
Roy started at Middle and wound up fighting a HW title holder and won.
Floyd started at Lightweight and kept going up and winning.
I wouldn't put Joe in the same club with those two, but he deserves to stand outside
For me, the Lacy and Kessler wins were huge for his legacy. The Hopkins fight, believe it or not, hurt him in a way. Nobody looks great against Hopkins, but comparing the way Roy beat Hopkins and Joe beat Hopkins at different stages of their career, kind of hurt him and continues to boost Roy's win. And forget the Hopkins was green bull****. Hopkins was a top ranked fighter and was boxing in jail; he was Prison champ. Hopkins was also much younger and physically at a high level.
Joe gets my respect; I think he is a very good fighter, but just a notch below Roy and Floyd. What Roy and Floyd were doing at their best weight in their prime was much more spectacular than what Joe was doing.
Joe's a HOF fighter, but there is a special room for certain fighters.
Why else doesn't he get respect?
Bias...plain and simple, but some of it is justified.
But hey, I'm a person that considers Lennox Lewis a top 10 all time HW so many would consider me wrong and Joe to straight out suck.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 11-05-2008, 12:42 PM.Comment
