probably not but its more due to the fact there are so many 154lbs pretending to be 147lbs at his weight div in Williams case 160lbs

In that case Mayweather shouldn't be inducted.. he never cleared out a single division.

Williams lost to a guy Cotto beat easily and Margo hasn't got close to even cleaning a division out either..

Clottey lost to Margarito.. besides a win against Judah, what else has he done? Beat an old Corrales?

In today's times cleaning out a division isnt as easy as it sounds...

Majority of today's fighters look at things differently...

for example...you have a guy like floyd jr...he's not interested in cleaning out a division he's interested in getting big pay checks...he hasnt cleaned out the WW division but that doesnt mean when he was active that he wasnt the best in that division (or THEE p4p champ).

as another poster stated; dempsey never cleared out a division...but he's in the HOF.

Anyway...to get back on track I do believe Miguel Cotto has the skills/talent to clear out a division...more than likely he'll come back to clear out the WW...with margarito and williams obviously being the toughest challenge...

cotto's issues are with taller fighters...

but as far as anyone else in that division goes he's easily the favorite (and rightfully so)...no matter if its against quintana, berto, etc. he's the favorite...

against williams he's either a SLIGHT favorite or a 2:1 underdog at worst...

Pretty much he's chance at the clearing out WW (in my opinion) all matters on if he can defeat margarito in a rematch.

He definately has the tools to do it.

He's a smarter fighter, has very good boxing ability/technique, he's one of the top premier body punchers in the sport and has pretty good defense.

The only issue will be is if he and his team can come up with a good enough strategy that doesnt tire him out (like he did in the first fight) and if he can find a way to slow margarito down and neutralize his punching...

if team cotto can do this then he wins a decision over margarito of the split decision variety.

To beat margarito in the rematch (in my own personal opinion) he has to work the body early and often...take the wind out of the sails of margarito...if he does this cotto can box the rest of the way if margarito is hurt to the body ENOUGH that he cant meet his standards of 1200+ punches a fight...

To think cotto cant clear out WW (or another division) is insanity at its finest...in my opinion cotto clears out 154 with ease...he has no big threats at 154...at 147 it might be challenging...his only real threats left are margarito and williams...beyond that i dont think there is anyone he HAS TO face (unless floyd jr. comes out of retirement) to prove he's the best at 147...

so im saying he can clear out a division.

You're full of it. He never came close. At 140 he only held one belt and didn't fight Mayweather(even though Mayweather challenged him), Kostya or Hatton. He did beat Paulie and Corley. Is that what you call cleaning out a division? At 147 he only held one belt and got his ass handed to him by Margarito and still hasn't fought Clottey or Williams. Has defeated Zab and Mosely. Not even close to cleaning out any division.
