Will Miguel Cotto ever be able to clean out a division?

    Well will he?

By the way, no fighter should ever be inducted into the hall of fame without having cleaned out at least one division, and that's the truth.

The boxing HOF is much easier to get into than most professional sports Hall of Fames. If Cotto beats Marg in a rematch and stays relevant(top 5 WW) in the division for another 3-4 years he'll probably get in.

He's capable of cleaning out a division. He's capable of beating every Welterweight, so of course he's capable. That's not to say he will as him beating Marg will be tough, and PWill will definitely give him problems. I'd have him as a solid favorite over every other WW though, and he CAN definitely beat both Marg and PWill.

We'll see what happens though, because if he beats Marg in the rematch there will have to be a 3rd fight. And those fights are the kind that take years of careers.

As long as Margarito and Williams are in the same division as champions he will never be able to clean out a division.

In order to clean out the division Cotto has to not only beat the best(including Marg and Williams), but he has to do it so convincingly that it seems these guys don't deserve to fight him again. I just don't see it happening

Never said I think he will. If I had to bet on it, I'd bet against it. But it's possible, and I disagree with you on saying he has to beat everyone very convincingly. If he beats Marg twice(not likely, but possible), beats PWill, Clottey, and Berto, he has cleaned out the division. I don't care what the wins look like, as long as they're not controversial.

And while the likelihood of that isn't great, he has the talent. I'd have Marg and PWill favored over him, but he'd be a VERY live dog.

Dempsey never cleared his division out. Does he not belong in the HOF?
