cotto/clottey is the best fight out of all arum's options for cotto. I don't see what the hold up is either unless cotto's people are scared or want more money.

Top Rank and HBO are in discussions for split-site doubleheader on Feb. 21. Arum told ESPN.com that if the deal is worked out it would look like this: ex-welterweight titlist Miguel Cotto would return from his loss to Margarito to face either Kermit Cintron or Jose Soto Karass in Atlantic City, N.J., to be followed on the broadcast by Kelly Pavlik returning from his loss to Bernard Hopkins to defend the middleweight title against mandatory challenger Marco Antonio Rubio at the Chevy Center in his native Youngstown, Ohio. In each arena, the other bout would be shown live on big screens, Arum said. "There's conversation, but it's not a deal yet," Arum said. "But it would be a great night for boxing. HBO came up with the idea and I like it."
I bet you this is what happens. I'm not sure why they are so into the Cintron fight. He's a big puncher, and beating him doesnt really mean much. It's like a lose lose situation. At least beating Clottey has upside.

If anyone thinks Clottey is too dangerous it's Arum not Cotto.

I tend to think Cotto matches up well with Clottey. Clottey doesn't throw enough to throw Cotto off. I don't think Cotto can hurt Clottey, so unless Cotto gets discouraged by that, I think Cotto would definitely win a decision.

the alphabet tiltles ( expecially the WBC) are hurting our sport. alot of top fighters are realizing that RING belt is the only one that matters. soon nobody will care about all these alphatbet belts.

Did anyone stop to think that for once that Arum has no control over this particular situation. Louis Collazo in a recent intrerview stated that he and his team we're going to press after a fight with Berto because he is the mandatory opponent. he was adamant about the possibility of him being overlooked. And he would persue legal action if necessary. He also beleves that Berto is still a very "green" Fighter.

yeah arum is probably protecting cotto, or atleast protecting the rematch w/ margarito and is just throwing clottey's name in the mix to give clottey press.

but at the same time I think cotto's team might be apprehensive of putting cotto in with a big guy like clottey. the last time cotto got put in with a big tough guy (marg) he got his ass whupped.

Yea Clottey's a big, tough guy no doubt. But he fights nothing like Marg. The pace Clottey likes to fight at is tailor-made for Cotto from what I've seen. I haven't seen too much of Clottey so I could certainly be wrong, but based on what I've seen he doesn't seem to be aggressive enough, and as Marg showed, you need to have Cotto going backwards so he doesn't sink his teeth into you gradually.

Clottey's a great counter puncher, and Cotto is susceptible to the straight right(Clottey's best punch from what I've seen), but I just don't think his work rate is high enough to stop Cotto from getting into a rythym and stealing rounds.
