and hasn't really done anything since, yet gets put #1 at Welterweight by the WBC

and just like that gets a title shot?

kinda bull**** if you ask me (what happened to earning your title shot?)

although Collazo/Berto should be a pretty interesting bout to look forward to, and if Berto really is this "star" in the making then he should get by Collazo when they fight.
You forgot that Collazo also beat the living **** out of Ricky hatton and he got robbed. He gave Mosley hell, and he has been the #1 ranked WW At WBC for more than a year. The kid already paid his dues so let the guy have the fight. I bet he will make Berto look like **** if they do fight

Yeah that would be a big all Puerto Rico fight there, and a pretty important fight for the WW division. Its also a must win situation, as both Cintron and Cotto are coming off of those Margarito fights.....

Man I think it is getting to the point where belts are ruining boxing. Throw the belt in the trash can and give the fans the fight they want to see. I am getting tired of potentially great fights getting ruined by sanctioning bodies. The bottom line is this - if Berto could beat Cotto he wouldn't need a belt. He could get whatever fight he wanted after that.

excellent point. I would like to see him in there with Clottey good fight for him to get a shot at a belt and a good fight in general.

By the way has anyone seen Clottey's new nickname on Boxrec? The grandmaster! WTF does he think he is a old school rapper? One of the dumbest names I've heard. Its hard for me to get my mind around how good Clottey is. He seems to get a little inconsistent late in fights but has decent power and good hand speed. His D seems to be pretty good and he seems to have a good chin. I think he has a slim shot to beat Cotto, based on what Cotto can do in a fight. Fighting Cotto with a shell defense stye won't work well.

I haven't seen too much of Clottey so I could certainly be wrong, but based on what I've seen he doesn't seem to be aggressive enough, and as Marg showed, you need to have Cotto going backwards so he doesn't sink his teeth into you gradually.

Clottey's a great counter puncher, and Cotto is susceptible to the straight right(Clottey's best punch from what I've seen), but I just don't think his work rate is high enough to stop Cotto from getting into a rythym and stealing rounds.

              that is right...

what in the hell did Collazo do to earn a mandatory shot in the first place? he hasnt beaten anyone worthwhile since his one sided loss to Mosley over a year ago...

its a joke. especially considering Cotto beat the guy that Collazo one sidedly lost to. how do these alphabet belts make their rankings? they make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

cotto - mosley was a very close fight. collazo will beat berto anyway, then cotto will beat him and set up the rematch against tony.

                      Cotto beat ?

Since when was it mandatory for a fighter to earn a title shot. Collazo is the mandatory challenger and has fought sparingly since loosing to Mosely. In my recent memory i remember Cotto facing the better competition and taking on a dangerous Margarito. Cotto should be given a match with Berto or Margarito based on beating the top 10 welterweights and giving a spirited performance with Margarito.
