I like you so, I'll go lightly on this. @ 30 years old, 22 fights in and finally becoming worthy of Jones at the time was far from after Tarver was out of his prime, bro. Jones @ 39 and after getting KO'd twice, I think Joe's case is a little more extreme, would'nt you say? lol. I think you should have left that one alone.Comment

The Roy fight was either going to make him or break him at that time.
Just think if Tarver didn't get the ko the Roy Jones critics would be calling him another "no name" on Roy's record.
Not that it's fair BTW Tarver was a damn good fighter it's just to bad that he got so far off track all those years.Last edited by Stab Judah; 10-31-2008, 12:10 PM.Comment

I mean he was only just starting to become a big name at that point.

Tarver was on quite a run before he met Jones though. I remember after the Woods fight, Jim Lampley and George Foreman both agreeing that Jones should stay at LHW because Tarver was a legitimate fight and not to go to heavy because Ruiz would KO him. Ironic...Comment

but uhm, i specifically remember roy saying the only one who thought roy could beat anyone WAS george foreman... in one of roys ffights george even said he could fight at heavyweight... so r u sure about thatComment

The answer is not there. It's: "Roy would have won a tough fight, taking more punishment than he had in any one fight of his career to that date."
Dariusz was underrated by the general boxing public, but not by people in boxing and other boxers. Roy knew there was easier money to be made out there, and HBO didn't hold his feet to the fire. So he took the easier money and the criticism. I'm a big Roy fan, and have been for his whole career. That's one missing fight that hurts his legacy.
There was controversy afoot in the two Richard Hall fights, when Hall was leading on the cards and the ref stopped the fights citing some insignificant swelling.
If Michaelzcewski was serious, he would have been on a plane to New York and fought him in the Garden.Comment

George said that thing about Jones going to heavy right after he KO'ed Griffin. In fact, what he said was pretty prophetic.
he then stated after the Hall fight that Jones didn't have enough pop to succeed at HW.
After the Woods fight he said Jones is a LIGHT heavyweight, "the best we've seen in a while. Why not just ride the wave of being the best light heavyweight in the world?"Comment
