You guys really do not know much about diets do you? Being a vegetarian WOULD benefit you as a boxer. Being a vegetarian has been proven to increase stamina and endurance. Not sure how many of you guys are aware that most of you're olympic runners are vegetarians/vegans. Protein is not as essential when it comes to meats. You get protein in a ton of food and as for Americans scientists and nutritionists have figured out that on average we consume double of our daily recommended allowance. What happens to the extra protein it becomes fat. For athletes they are consuming a ton of protein which helps but also hurts because it starts to wear down on the kidneys. Most athletes are better off consuming foods that will increase the glucose and monounsaturated fats (like nuts).
Does having a vegetarian diet benefit you as a boxer?

D, I don't mean to sound rude but this is an ignorant comment. Eating vegetarian food doesn't mean you have to be miserable. On the contrary, if you have any feelings at all for animals, then being vegetarian will make you feel not only better heath-wise, but give your conscience an easier time, too. "Whatever **** they turn into meat"? Man, do you know what actually goes into "meat"? The answer is animal ****, concrete, eyeballs, brains, *******s... you name it. In contrast, vegetarian food is not ****, it's all good.
Vegetarian food nowadays is superb and there is a VAST range of good stuff. In fact I fool my uncle regularly by cooking vegetarian food at his house and giving it to him. He thinks it's real meat and falls for it every time. LOL. One day I'll probably confess that those sausages that he said were the best he's ever had weren't even made from dead pigs.
That said, people do get a bit arrogant about it, especially when they are wrong on certain things. I have been in boxing, wrestling martial arts etc I have a good muscle mass, and I developed into an adult as a vegetarian.
Its just a matter of what you eat. If you eat a really balanced no-meat diet, your conditioning will probably improve.Comment

A vegetarian diet is definitely healthier than one that includes meats specially red meat. Of course, that is only true if it is a well balanced vegetarian diet which is pretty hard to achieve. You can definitely get all the proteins/amino acids from vegetables but you will need to have a greater variety of foods in order to obtain complete proteins which are found in eggs, chicken, beef etc. What does this mean?? Proteins in eggs, milk, fish and meat are complete proteins that meet all of the body's amino acid requirements for proper tissue maintenance and growth. Different vegetarian foods like Corn, legumes, nuts and vegetables are rich in protein however they are incomplete proteins. Therefore vegetarians must carefully plan their diets in order to obtain all the necessary amino acids and prevent malnutrition. When you have a well balanced diet (legumes, grains, cereals, vegetables) you will have all the necessary amino acids for proper nutrition. Another thing to keep in mind is that several studies have linked consumption of meats (specially red meat) to have a big effect on developing life threatening diseases such as prostate cancer, colon cancer, cardiovascular disease, etc.
With all that said, I cannot possibly give up meat from my diet..... there's nothing quite like it!Comment

And by whatever **** they turn into meat, I meant the soy imitation or whatever they use.
Plus, individual activism is ****** IMO. Anyone who avoids eating meat to save animals is ignorant, because they should realize that that makes 0 difference in how many animals are killed and produced. I worked at WalMart in HS, and I got to see how much meat was just thrown away because it went past the expiration date. Nahmean?Comment

Ill let the cat out of the bag, I am an 8 year vegetarian, and in that time I have not cheated once. But its a personal thing, and I would never expect somebody else to understand why I do it.

Good on you for sticking to your diet.

I agree with you, KJB -- I wouldn't try to force my opinions on anyone else. Some vegetarians are just too preachy. What people eat is up to them, but I do wish they'd educate themselves a little bit before suggesting that if you're a vegetarian you'll have a miserable life. That's far from the truth.
Good on you for sticking to your diet.
I'm not sure how that isn't forcing your opinion or being preachy, but... that's just me.Comment

I don't think it's ignorant to say that vegetables taste worse than ******* to me.
