Roy Jones Jr. - "Who is Greater? Me or Bernard Hopkins?"

No comparison between Roy and any other fighter ever. You can try your harderst to compare him to whoever, but bottom line, if you are being real with yourself, no fighter can match up to what Roy was able to do in the ring. Sure, there are fighters who went undefeated and then retired. Sure, there are fighters who had wars in the ring and won by decision. Sure....Had James Toney vs. Roy Jones been a brawl or Roy Jones vs. Bernard Hopkins been a brawl, some people would respect him more. What kind of sense does that make? So if Michael Jordan barely put the ball in the basket or barely dunked on other players would we call him the greatest?? No way....Roy blew competition out of the water so often and so easily he not only cemented his legacy, he took away other fighters potential to even have a legacy. No comparison. Roy Jones is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. Easy

what does a scary person do? they say things they dont mean,they get defensive,they sound unsure.roy jones is doing all three, i mean i already knew roy was scared of bernard but not to this degree.and he has the nerve to ask people whos the greater fighter.roy is a great fighter,he has speed, footwork and he is gifted,hes one of a kind.but look at the opponents he has had the last five years.tarver whooped him twice(maybe 3).glen johnson almost took his life.then he fought a bus driver,and a guy nobody knew(not even his mom knew him,then a fat kid(trinidad) i mean please. hopkins is the real lengend

Exactly! & if you go beyond that....He fought John Ruiz. (who shouldn't of even had a belt but just happpened to be holding a title) Had he beaaten holifield or tyson or someone significant...riddinck bowe or shannon briggs even. That would have been a great feat. But it ws john ruiz. When's the last time he's won a fight??Please. Roy took the ppath of least resistence & ended up paying for it later.

THAT HAD TO BE A JOKE RIGHT. B hop certainly is a Legend, but there are categories. He is gonna be in the James Toney, marvin hagler, tommy hearns, roberto duran category. Right under the Ali category, which is right under the Roy Jones category. Roy = The Greatest. B hop ain't even close to Roy Jones. Do yall even watch boxing?

Not to say Roy is the greatest of all time but better then B-hop in hes prime he was (if he still is thats another story) but for me RJJ was a joy to watch.

come on dog, since when having speed means that you're great? thats all RJJ fans say about him when they're trying to defend him. look at his resume, compare that to hopkins opponents, you still think roy is better? all great fighters lose, thats right. but great fighters come back. how did roy come back after his ass whoopin by tarver? he took a fight that was suppose to be a tune-up vs glen johnson and he almost lost his head in the 9th round.then he fought prince badi-ajamu(WHO??)and the fight actually went 12 rounds.then he fought anthony hanshaw(LOL!)this fight went 12 rounds too.then he fought felix trinidad, which is a big name to have on your resume.but tito was clearly taking the fight for the money,he was overweight(look at the back of his neck, wow!)he look like he was eating ice cream during training camp, and roy couldnt knock him out.another thing about roy i hate is how he makes excessive excuses when he loses.when he lost to tarver TWICE,he said he wasnt motivated.than when he beat the "prince" guy,he said he was really motivated.i think those KO losses ****ed his head up seriously.look at bernard hopkins. he fought taylor(who was undefeated, an up-and-coming lion that HBO crowned the next best thing)lost a controversial dec. that came down to the last round which hopkins clearly won but one judge went against him. he didnt have to take that fight, he couldve retired as one of the best at 160 of all time.then he fought him again and lost another controversial dec. you would think he would fight a easy fight after 2 "losses" but no he moves up to 175 to fight the champion tarver(the man that KO'd jones,then embarrassed him in the 3rd fight).bhop dominated tarver with ease.you would think he would retire after this great accomplishment but no he fights winky wright(a guy that hadnt lost a fight in nearly 10 years,one of the best defensive fighters in history,taylor couldnt beat him)bhop dominated him.then he fought joe calzaghe(undefeated champion)and anyone with eyes could see he beat calzaghe(his prefight "whiteboy" comment is what lost him the decision, cause the judges were white and they wanted that "black guy" to eat his words)then he fought kelly pavlik(everyone thought he was unbeatable,evryone avoided him, including calzaghe,undefeated champion,young,with incredible power)bhop mopped the ring with him.........if you still think jones is better, explain your case

This is a tough one for me to decide. Both obviously locks for HOF. Roy Jones Jr might have had the greater career but Hopkins has the greater resume. Hopkins also was/is the better boxer of the two. Hopkins became a so much better boxer with age a lot more better than when he first fought Roy Jones. I guess if its who had the greater overall career well you have to go with Roy Jones Jr because like i just said in another thread about Oscar De la Hoya part of having a great career is by making a lot of money. Now if your going by who's the greater boxer well its clearly Hopkins because of his defensive mastery over the years. If they fight right now Hopkins beats him now prime for prime u know i think Hopkins beats him too

B-Hop has my respect as the greater fighter. He's never been decisively beaten, and even in his fight with Jones, maybe 2 punches were landed in the whole fight. And Hopkins was MUCH greener than Jones at that point
