  • Roy Jones Jr. - "Who is Greater? Me or Bernard Hopkins?"

Roy Jones Jr. has come out swinging on Bernard Hopkins. Jones won a twelve round decision over Hopkins in 1993 to capture the vacant IBF middleweight title, and while there have been talks for a rematch since 2002 - the two were never able to reach an agreement. After Hopkins dominated Kelly Pavlik on October 18 in Atlantic City, there was immediate hype for a Hopkins-Jones rematch. Hopkins went on the record, demanding the winner of Jones vs. Joe Calzaghe, taking place on November 8 in New York's Madison Square Garden. [details]

Bernard is greater because he can say that he hasn't been knocked the "F" out

In the prime of their respective careers, Roy Jones Jr. was a top 10 all-time p4p great, while Hopkins was a top 10 all-time Middleweight great. Now B-Hop is showing some great life for an athlete of his age, great durability, while Jones made some mistakes (ie: draining 30 lbs. to fight 2 light heavyweights after his 35th birthday). Now that both are re-focused, each has a few good fights left in them, but I can't imagine something between them being any more exciting than their first meeting.

if you're so much greater roy, then fight him. hes fought and beaten the better opposition to you over the last few years, and hes 4 years older.

Roy was knocked out at 35 years old. Say what you will about Tarver being 35 too, Roy had twice as many fights. Roy had more wear and tear on his body than Tarver did. And lets remember Before the knockouts, from 1989-2003, Roy didn't lose. Everybody eventually falls. Ali wasn't the same fighter at 35, as he was at 30 or younger. Roy fell fast because the weight drain and Tarver caught him with a great left hand. Had Tarver not landed that left, who knows maybe Roy would have won and things would have went different.

That only happened because Jones drained 30+ pounds immediately following a contest with a heavyweight to take on the top two guys at light heavy. He should have taken a lot more time off to get his body back into 175 shape.

Plus, a chin is something that can't be trained; conversely, it can't be held against them either.

All-time, Jones is the better man. Hopkins definitely looks better older than does Jones, but in their prime, B-Hop was lucky that Jones fought him so cautiously.

Heres the thing people don't get about Roy Jones Jr. weight drain going into the Tarver fight in 03. People scream he had 8 months to do it!!!!!!!!!!! True, but he didn't use all 8 months. He wait until the last minute, thinking he would get a fight with Tyson. Plus it wasn't just weight he was draining, it was muscle.
