    My point is this.

You are a young African-American kid living in a poor area looking for some way to get ahead. You make your way to a local boxing gym, etc etc etc. We have heard this story before.

How about if you are a young kid living in Africa? Instead of going down to the gym to train after school you don't go to school. You work an 8 hour day trying to earn enough money to enable you and your family to survive.

The few that make it to higher income countries are:
    a) the lucky ones; and/or
    b) from the very small percentage of the population that isn't actually living in poverty.

Who is to know how many great fighters Africa would produce if they were privy to the same living conditions and training infrastructure as the African-Americans in the States?

I think it was just that they were great fighters. He also beat Carr, Quartey etc. They were the best fighters he fought. It has nothing to do with the fact they are black and had rhythm.

Sturm gave him as many problems as those guys and he's about as straight up Euro style as you can get. It simply has to do with how good they were at the time and those guys were all great fighters when Oscar fought them, though Whitaker was obviously past it he was still renowned for being a very difficult fighter to look good against, obviously.

None of those guys are easy to look good against. Whitaker made everyone look bad as did Hopkins. Mosley was still freak fast with combo's when Oscar fought him and Floyd has the defense to make most look bad as well. Sturm did the same thing as those guys though and he made Oscar look terrible.

Damn, which Locche were you watching? How you could possibly consider him not very fluid is a bit strange. Do you also consider Pep to be not very fluid or Johnny Famechon to be not very fluid.

Kenny Buchanan was a very underrated, fluid defensive fighter. He was about as white as they could ever come. Meh, anyway, this is a pointless conversation. They never go anywhere.

I promised myself I wouldn't post in race threads no more but this one hasn't turned ignorant yet.........first of all, I think african-americans are REAL blacks just like Sam Peter, Ike Quartey and the rest of the Africans born in the Motherland. Second, where I'm from Puerto Ricans are considered black.....Winky and Cotto looks to have the same skin colour to my eyes. Last but not least, Oscar has problems with SMART fighters. Like someone posted earlier.....Shane and Oscar could fight 100 times and it would be 50-50, thats that! B-Hop,Floyd and Pernell were just smarter than Oscar, I don't think it had anything to do with colour

These same places produce olympic worlds class athletes, best runners in the world.

You do know that their are some decent places in Africa where the standard of living is decent. They have civilization. Their are over 50 countries in africa, some have solid boxing programs like Nigeria and Ghana. Africa is too general of a term to describe the poverty your talking about.

The few that you say are "lucky" to leave are the ones that happen to be their best boxers. They even have their system with their own titles such as the Guyanese title.

                  or were they just great
Apart from Roy Jones the 4 you mentioned are probably the 4 best fighters of the past 15-20 years. I don't think it's got anything to do with them being black, just a coincidence maybe

You must either plain ****** or just plain ignorant

The reason they produce the best long distance runner is that they have low-twitch fibres which helps them run longer and better than everyone. That is only East Africa; you don’t need state of the art technology to produce these runners. You just need to run and train at high altitude which they already do.

Africa is the poorest continent in the world, they are some good places. The good places where people live in don’t have time to go boxing when they feel like. It's not like this in Africa. Making fights is extremely hard, one CAN'T choose a boxing career, usually males try to work for their families,
