You were right about Pavlik. I was not sold on him either but did think he could win based on Bernard's age. So what Bernard did here is pretty impressive based on that. Again I wasn't the one pumpin up Pavlik around here, so I mean good call on that one. But whatever.

Clearly Pavlik cannot adjust to someone who can change styles. So he would lose to Joe based on that alone unless Joe suddenly became very old overnight.
Whatever man. You can keep calling me bias and I'll keep calling it like it is.

You may not have been "pumping up" Pavlik but you were very critical over the fact that I even suggested that he could be dominated in such an easy Lacyesque fashion.

I think Ive been vindicated. And maybe instead of just flying off the handle over every post I make calling me "biased" or whatever, you should take the time to read them. You never know - you might learn something.

      Great post though
Pavlik's fans are fools man.......Kelly Pavlik is one of the REALEST dudes in boxing. He's gotten up off the canvas more than once to KO his opponent.....its easy to like this kid and very hard to hate him......so I don't see why his fans behaved the way they did other than foolishness. Kelly will bounce back!!

See, the thing is, even though I like Pav more, I like B-Hop too. But what I knew would be hard to swallow about the defeat would be the Cal****ty factor. I knew he'd be revisionist **** going on and the Calsploogey fans would use Bernard's win for their own agenda.

If Calducky wasn't in the picture, I woudn't be so disappointed with the loss, because the performance by Hopkins, viewed in context, was wonderful and a bit of a classic.
Yes thats all so well and good but when most before the Hopkins v Pavlick fight was useing the Calzaghe v Hopkins fight as a yard stick what more do you exspect ??

** Excellent point about the timing. Can't ever figure out why people can't figure out that timing is everything in boxing, not speed. Good analysis except for the above.

Kelly's will wasn't broken. He was ready to carry on after the bell. It was more like being completely befuddled. Poppy does that with everyone, he disrupts their timing and Kelly normally a very accurate puncher. Let's face it, Poppy needed an alltime career performance to beat him.

One of many endearing things about Kelly is loyalty to his working class roots, so him having the same trainer since he was a kid it has to have stalled his development. When something always works, ie his bludgeoning power, there is no impetus to change, but he could be learning to put some speed and snap on his punches for variety, improve his inside fighting skills, and start becoming a body connisseur instead of relying on headhunting.

His next title defense will be against Rubio, a tiny guy perfect to do some speed work on instead of just walking in and beating down. Then comes Abraham, a tricky prospect if Abraham can overcome his recent weight struggles. Abraham took an alltime ferocious beating from Miranda, and he's roared back, so all ain't lost yet.

BTW, it's a tribute to the class Poppy finally found late in his career that he has Pavlik's fans cheering him on. All time great technical masterclass, Poppy's career highlight. Took some real guts to put in the conditioning and supreme discipline to pull it off

****, I was really struggling to stay awake at 4am during that fight, was sooooo bad and was worried about being able to stay up for the Pavlik-Hopkins fight although thankfully the adrenaline started pumping again during the ring entrances

I might learn something? LOL. Thanks for the arrogance update. I'm always critical of you. That's just how it goes as you are of me. I am impressed that you still think we were having serious boxing conversations all this time. Go be vindicated elsewhere. This is not a flame thread.

Speed < Timing. Everyone says speed speed speed but Bernard has always been a timing fighter.

I think Kelly's will was broken. Not in the sense that he wasn't going to finish the fight. He was. But he made a "silent pact" as Teddy Atlas likes to say that he was going to do just enough to finish but could no longer do enough to win and did not want to be there.

But people were pumped and loud before the TV broadcast even started. Just saying.
Lots of beautiful women out in AC this past weekend. Last time I saw Bernard Hopkins fight (before last Saturday) was at the same venue, in Boardwalk Hall against Antonio Tarver. I'm not sure which performance was more impressive.

Yeah it was crazy, I've been up to AC a lot but this was impressive. I take it you were there?

Hell yea. Hopkins' ringwalk alone was worth the trip up there.
