But, there was that one time, that my coach took me to another gym, and had me spar with this kid, who for once was smaller than I was. At first, I was thinking cool, I get to play the role of the boxer. But, that lil f**ker was dippin' dodgin' moving left-right, the first few rounds felt like I had two left feet.

What the kid was doin' was nothin' new, but, the movement, speed and the target was much smaller.
I also wanted to ask how you see a Paul Williams vs Floyd play out.

I for one and for once, I think Floyd would be the underdog going in. I see P-Will if not routing Floyd, possibly ko'ing him, what do you think?

Also, lately we've all heard of Floyd's financial woes. Now, we always hear the more affluent boxers have "financial advisors", it seems like these "financial advisors" disappear when tax time comes around.

    Don't these fighters hire CPA's?

Williams is a BIG poblem...I think, to tell u the truth, out of all the possible bouts he is the one Floyd (just guessing, of course) would least like to fight...if they fought today I might even bet on Paul....also, fighters may have advisors etc etc but understand that most of these guys have no real education, have boxed all during the years they were supposed to be forming their education, they have no real guides to let them know how important it is (Floyd Sr. doesnt strike me as the biggest advocate of going to school to make an attempt at the honor roll)...so when they get big money, the flood gates fly open...buying ridiculous things...they probably dont actually listen to the advisor nearly as much as they should...

      • Iceman, how much have you enjoyed meeting all these ring legends and stuff... watching them train and how did it feel being with them at those times?

Also... who stands out more than most of the other fighters you have met? It can be a couple, not just one.

I was actually a newcomer to the amateur scene when your dad was one of the top guys so I never actually met him in person...I was fighting novice at 156 so I used to follow the amateurs very closely back then in the early 80's those guys were all my idols...I knew your dad's name VERY WELL...he was almost as well known as any of the biggest guys around back then (Breland, Biggs, Taylor, Whitaker), he was way up there in the rankings with all the top guys like Jerry Page (1984 Olympic gold medal winner), Roderick Moore, John Meekins, Henry Hughes, Timmy Rabon, etc etc etc...

I actually have a chapter in my book called BRUSHES WITH FAME where I talk about all the top boxers (and actors, singers, rappers, etc) I have been lucky enough to meet or befriend over the course of my career and I mention many but... no one stands out, no one gives you that feeling like you get when you meet Ali. It's just different. I have met or seen some big names (Tyson, Jordan, etc etc)..but Ali is different...

Also, I met Tyson several times...spoke with him at length, was surprised and happy to find out that he actually knew who I was...he was cool, really...much different in a casual setting than most might think...

Trust me, on the national amateur level in his weight class your dad was one of the best...and he was one of the best during one of the toughest eras ever in amateur boxing...
