Its easy to see that from the tv, and I felt the same way, but when your in the ring its different... you got knocked out by this guy, when you were throwing a punch at him, and he countered you at the same time...
so you gata think, thats whats going through roys mind at the time... man i mthrowin all these punches, one is bound to come back to me...
when you think of it like that its almost understandable.. even though if your gonna walk through the ropes u gata have the mindset to fight... but i know where he was coming from, i think he sensed tarver trying to set him up for somehing, and he didnt wanna give him the opportunity
glad u figured it out dwiens... u ever need anything just hollerLast edited by THE REED; 10-07-2008, 10:07 PM.Comment

lets not get ahead of ourselves here. Yes, Roy Jones is a top 10 Light Heavyweight. which is the reason he can beat guys outside the top ten, like Hanshaw, Badji, Trinidad...and he should get credit for that. but hes fallen a long way.Comment

He won a round haha. And added some clown ****! lol. RJJ didnt knockout Tarver, didnt knock down Tarver, and he didnt even wobble Tarver. He didnt even land a highlight reel clean shot. Only a few decent shots and some body work. Not even to mention Tarver put him on the ropes and tore into him with a combo of his own. I understand Jones fans now, I didnt use to. When you dig that hard to find one round and want it to be so much more than it is.Comment

I once had a real nice conversation with Buddy McGirt at a midtown lounge in NYC. Said that after the fifth round he implicitly told Tarver to make it a dogfight; to get dirty and rough Jones up. Said he wanted Roy to remember the KO loss. said a whole lot more but it's late and the overnight Asian markets have me worried about tomorrow. If this thread is up tomorrow, I'll include the rest.Comment

Since you're in PA, I'm assuming you're going to the Jones fight?sure
in the prince fight, just like anyone of his fight he still showed his handspeed... he still used his same old prime style, and didnt quite let his hands go that much, it was mostly 1's and 1'2s, they were very fast though... he ruptured bade's "spleen" i believe... he ruptured something cant remember the body organ.
In the Hanshaw fight, he started incorporating his winky style, at first I was hesitent and I didnt like it because I was used to him moving out of the way and thought he was getting beat up... I then realized he was actually blocking these punches and walking towards Hanshaw for about 1/3of the fight... 2/3 of the fight, he fought off the ropes... it almost looked as though he was trying something new, wanted to see how he could handloe fighting off the ropes... it wasnt like the tarver fight (cover up and get hit) it was hands up, block and roll.. come back with 1 and two real fast counters... the difference was, every single punch roy through, landed 100% clean... which ended up in a ridiculous knockdown in the 11th... He looked better in this fight then he did in the Badi Fight
In the Trinidad fight is when he brough even more of his old self out as far as, in the middle of the ring boxing... more combinations, actually using his jab, double and triple left hooks, and fast fast right straight right hands... he did go on the ropes in this fight, but again, it wasnt like tarver, tired and blocking and getting hit... it was more of an invite into the ropes, where hes going to block roll and counter... and he scored two knockdowns in this fight...
you could realistically say Trinidad < Hanshaw < Badi, and you could also say he looked better, with better competition...
does it prove he can beat an elite fighter? no, but it does prove he isnt shot, he can pull the trigger, he can improve, he can still hit the target, and can still throw with speed accuracy and power.
The rest we are yet to see.Comment
