great unbiased breakdown and very trueHe fought with his old style a lot moreagainst Ajamu, he still got pushed back and didn't fight off the ropes that well in that one, his hands were low but he kept Ajamu at distance well, Ajamu had his best success in the first round when he was very agressive against Jones, he stopped doing that after the first round and let Jones get the distance to let his shots off, Jones also landed some very good body shots in that fight, Ajamu had to go the hospital I think for peeing blood.
He developed better defense against Hanshaw, saw some of the turtle shell defense in that fight, he also fought off the ropes better, countering Hanshaw off the ropes, which was how he hurt Hanshaw but he got caught a bit, had swelling over one of his eyes, but ree****yalus said Jones had swelling on his eye already prior to the fight and it was just made worse in the fight so I won't take too much from that.
Trinidad fight, saw much more use of the turtle shell defense, used his jab effectively, thew decent combinations.
Anyways, I wouldn't take too much from those fights apart from Jones developing better defense fight by fight.Comment

sure
in the prince fight, just like anyone of his fight he still showed his handspeed... he still used his same old prime style, and didnt quite let his hands go that much, it was mostly 1's and 1'2s, they were very fast though... he ruptured bade's "spleen" i believe... he ruptured something cant remember the body organ.
In the Hanshaw fight, he started incorporating his winky style, at first I was hesitent and I didnt like it because I was used to him moving out of the way and thought he was getting beat up... I then realized he was actually blocking these punches and walking towards Hanshaw for about 1/3of the fight... 2/3 of the fight, he fought off the ropes... it almost looked as though he was trying something new, wanted to see how he could handloe fighting off the ropes... it wasnt like the tarver fight (cover up and get hit) it was hands up, block and roll.. come back with 1 and two real fast counters... the difference was, every single punch roy through, landed 100% clean... which ended up in a ridiculous knockdown in the 11th... He looked better in this fight then he did in the Badi Fight
In the Trinidad fight is when he brough even more of his old self out as far as, in the middle of the ring boxing... more combinations, actually using his jab, double and triple left hooks, and fast fast right straight right hands... he did go on the ropes in this fight, but again, it wasnt like tarver, tired and blocking and getting hit... it was more of an invite into the ropes, where hes going to block roll and counter... and he scored two knockdowns in this fight...
you could realistically say Trinidad < Hanshaw < Badi, and you could also say he looked better, with better competition...
does it prove he can beat an elite fighter? no, but it does prove he isnt shot, he can pull the trigger, he can improve, he can still hit the target, and can still throw with speed accuracy and power.
The rest we are yet to see.Last edited by THE REED; 10-07-2008, 09:57 PM.Comment
