At first (for like thirty seconds when I saw him) I though he was like a young Shane Mosley. But that's nonsense at after a full minute it became clear he couldn't carry a young Mosley's jockstrap.

Gamboa is 27, by the way. That's not young for a 126 lber.

Martinez hadn't fought outside Kansas City since he did that tour of Iowa a few years back

whats wrong with you guys? He may not be future p4p #1, but the guy is exciting as hell to watch, and hes probebly going to win a title. How can he not with that kind of speed and power?

Fair post. This thread is just anti-hype. If I never read that he would be the biggest star in boxing, I wouldn't have to write about how he won't.

Im sure you had that same feeling about Aaron Pryor right? Thats who Gamboa reminded me of tonight. The way he went down got back up, and was going back after him before the ref could jump in to give him a count.

You are wrong. Every time Gamboa has looked even remotely bad, it has been because he is trying to please his trainers.

Gamboa is at his best fighting like Gamboa, they are ****ing with his style and I don't like it.

Gamboa has THE best legs in boxing, the best combinations in boxing, the best head movement in boxing, he needs a team that will help him work with what he has. Trying to change his style is not good for him.

Bottom line, Gamboa is the real deal.

However, I would like to see him move down in weight.

You are wrong. I obviously I was exaggerating a bit. His head movement is not as good as Ivan Calderon.

That is besides the point. People are trying to paint him as an unskilled brawler who's only assets are hand speed and punching power.

That is not true. Gamboa is on of the craftiest young fighters in the game. Hiis style is based on subtlety. When he is throwing, he moves his head just enough to turn your punch into a glancing blow. He turns his head just enough to make your hook miss, he steps to the side just enough to make you reach.

Most of the people denigrating Gamboa are people that have never laced up a pair of gloves. The people praising him, like myself, are people that have laced up the gloves. People that can see the subtleties of his style, the brilliance of his defence, the way he uses his legs and creates angles, and steps around fights. He is what Bert Sugar is talking about when he talks about old school fighters where all you can hit is their ears.

Watch any of his fights in slow motion, he gets hit much much less than it looks like at normal speed.
