We all knew it was a lie anyway. If contradiction was a skill, Joe would be unbeatable!lOL

Also do you notice where he said he did not come 15 years to lose in his last fight and that retiring undefeated was very important to him. That is the fuel that fires out the contradictions.

You've posted a lot of things, and so there's a lot to answer, but in brief:

Yes, most people agree that if Calzaghe retires without facing Pavlik, it damages his reputation. How much so depends upon how good Pavlik does against Hopkins and how the rest of his career turns out.

Calzaghe has said a lot of silly things, and yes, he's made himself look bad.

I just see so many posts that one person says one thing and the other comes back over the top of him with something else and the saga goes on and on. I just figured I'd start posting what's "out there" instead of my personal opinion. In you saying it all depends on the Hopkins fight, which is what I gathered alot from the JC camp in facing Pav, is what confuses me. Not in the principle, I get that part. I just don't get how beating a 43yo Hop, whether by the same margin or more convincingly, suddenly makes Pav credible given Enzo and Joe are both saying, now, he's trash. He beats Hop convincingly - BOOM - he's a great champion and he deserves a shot and I wanna do this and that, etc. etc. I just don't get how ONE fight, can suddenly cause a camp to do a complete 180, not saying that's what they'll do, and take him on and give him his props.

Ahh well, I wanna see Pav unify with AA before anything happens anyway, pending they both win, which they both should. Pavlik, while still earning his new found stardom in convincing fashion, DOESN'T need JC to solidify his career. I think, if it doesn't happen, it's only going to blemish JC's run should he retire. THAT, would be a shame if he let's ONE fight, ruin all he has accomplished and it very well may go down like that as I have read. Only time will tell though.

JC's camp do contradict themselves, but they have to know deep down that Pavlik is more credible than RJJ. The rest of the world certainly does.

I think Pavlik's camp have been smart in picking Hopkins though. Right now, people rate Calzaghe higher. If Pavlik had beat someone like Rubio, or even Winky, people would probably feel the same way. But if he beats Hopkins in a more impressive manner than Calzaghe did, then a lot of people will be backing Pavlik to beat Calzaghe.

Originally, Calzaghe-Jones was going happen first. He could've retired, saying that he doesn't care about Pavlik-Hopkins. How things are now, if Pavlik beats Hopkins by KO or something, how can he possibly retire without facing somone who just demolished the guy that gave him his toughest fight? Maybe he will, but it will make him look very bad.

I think Calzaghe is past his best, and I can understand why he wants to retire if he feels that he can't perform as well anymore. But like you, it's the trashing of Pavlik that I dislike.

Yeah, I like Abraham and Pavlik, and hopefully they get it on before too long.

The best case scenario IMO is if Pavlik and Calzaghe both win by KO. It's unlikely, but not impossible. If it happens, both will look great and the interest in the fight will be so much that Calzaghe ends up agreeing to fight him.

Maybe, in the meantime, Abraham gets an impressive win vs Winky, setting up a fight with the winner.
