Essentially, they agreed to forfeit Guzman's purse (estimated around $200-300k) if we agreed to another fight. I personally rejected the offer myself for a number of reasons.

    1. Nate's damages are $400k, not $200-300k (Nate received $0 for the fight)
    2. There will be no discussion of a new fight, until settlement is complete from the previous breached contract.
    3. There are no network dates available that would generate enough money to meet the settlement amount.
    4. The WBO is dropping Guzman completely out of the rankings at 135, so if Nate fought him he would be stripped of the WBO title.
    5. It is almost certain that even if tv dates were available, Showtime or HBO would not take another chance on Guzman at this point.
    6. Nate has an IBF mandatory due next, and can only get an exception to fight someone else ranked in the IBF top 15, which Guzman is not, so fighting him would cause Nate to be stripped of the IBF title.
    7. Guzman has a pending suspension issue to deal with in Miss., which hasnt yet been resolved.
    8. His complete lack of professionalism, pulling out literally 2 hours before the fight should not be rewarded with an immediate unified title fight.

If anyone needs more reasons, I can keep going.......

Edit: And from Guzman's people's standpoint, this deal makes all the sense in the world. Think about what it will cost them in dollars and in time to have Guzman fight off-tv, and move him back up in the rankings to position for another title shot. Probably a half million or better, and 12-18 months at least. Of course it makes sense for them to offer us this deal. It's a no-brainer for them. But alas, I in fact do have a brain, so its a no-deal on our end.
Can Campbell/Funeka happen in December or is that too soon?

Thanks. Obviously we would love to make a Marquez fight or a Juan Diaz rematch, but that ugly thing called "reality" keeps popping up. Those fights just aren't going to happen at this point, and we all know why. But we are working on something for November, and should have some news by the end of the week.

Thanks for the great info. Just curious why would Nate want to fight Diaz again?

December is an ugly month to try and do anything. I'd love to see Don make that fight in Nov., but my gut tells me Funeka's people would prefer to send that fight to purse bid in the hopes of bringing it to South Africa, and that process would take too long for a Nov or Dec fight to be a reality. We are reaching out to them as we speak to see what can be done. If the option of a Nov fight comes to fruition, and Funeka wont deal, then we have the option of fighting someone else in the IBF top 15 in a voluntary defense, and then doing the Funeka mandatory immediately after. My main objective is to get Nate back in the ring as soon as possible. I'd love for it to be against Funeka, to get that out of the way, but ultimately that call will be made by Funeka and his team, as to whether or not they want to make a deal or go to purse bid.

Nate doesnt really care about Diaz one way or the other, but alot of allegations were made against Nate about steroids, and that Diaz was "distracted", and the "cut", and other nonsense. And if the opportunity was available for Nate to do it again to prove it was no fluke, then he's all for it. But Nate himself doesnt believe in calling out someone you've already beaten, so this fight would only really come to pass if Diaz' people asked for it, which they aren't. But I put it out there, because Morons Unlimited still has a few members running around saying Nate wont give him a rematch, and Nate cheated, and blah, blah, blah, which is simply not true.

If the Funeka fight can't be worked out by November or December, who else could Campbell fight at that time?

Diaz or Marquez vs Campbell probably won't happen either, GBP wants to keep that belt.

Makes sense, my guess is Diaz needs another few wins before he gathers himself to call for a rematch. Any chance well see Casa vs Nate anytime soon?

Only someone ranked in the top 15 by the IBF.

                      Casa?? lol

                      Not.

We tried like hell to make that fight, not just recently, but back in 05 and 06 as well, and Casa wouldnt take it. As far as I'm concerned, he's dead to us now. The main purpose in fighting him was to unify the IBF/WBO/WBA titles with the Ring title, to settle the question as to who is the man at 135. That no longer applies.
