Besides needing the money I'm sure you feel that Nate needs the work at this point just as bad. You don't want to be coming off a long layoff if a big fight materializes next year.

Yep. Nate needs to stay busy. Thanks to Casa screwing us around for almost 4 months, and then this Guzman nonsense, Nate hasnt fought since March.

maybe Im getting mixed up, but I remember that Julio was avoiding a fight with Campbell when Julio was a champion. I like Julio as a fighter, but I dont think he wants to fight Campbell now any more than he did before.

Peterson would be a great fight for Campbell, but its going to be pretty much impossible to get him in the ring with Nate.

more than anything I would like the Marquez fight, and I wish they would just follow what Campbell said in his letter...Marquez vs. Campbell on the undercard of De La Hoya-Pacquiao. that would be perfect, but seeing as Marquez hasnt responded...

as far as Im concerned, all boxing fans should be calling for Marquez vs. Campbell. Theres no other fight in boxing that makes more sense. a true, complete unification between the two best fighters at a stacked Lightweight. and seeing as how Marquez had some wars with Pacquiao, it would make sense to put him on the undercard of the De La Hoya Pacquiao fight, because people would recognise him and be even more interested in the card.

Actually, the cut came from a very obvious punch. There was absolutely no headbutt when the cut was caused at all. Just before Diaz pulls back from the clinch he is caught by a right semi-uppercut straight on the eyebrow which busts it open immediately. Right when he is hit Diaz steps back holding his eye and you can see the blood pouring out. One hundred % caused by a punch.

A lot of people say this stuff about him (Diaz) losing because of a headbutt when there never was one. They are always the same people who comment on fights they have never even watched themselves. Watch the fight before commenting on it.

Essentially, they agreed to forfeit Guzman's purse (estimated around $200-300k) if we agreed to another fight. I personally rejected the offer myself for a number of reasons.

            1. Nate's damages are $400k, not $200-300k (Nate received $0 for the fight)
            2. There will be no discussion of a new fight, until settlement is complete from the previous breached contract.
            3. There are no network dates available that would generate enough money to meet the settlement amount.
            4. The WBO is dropping Guzman completely out of the rankings at 135, so if Nate fought him he would be stripped of the WBO title.
            5. It is almost certain that even if tv dates were available, Showtime or HBO would not take another chance on Guzman at this point.
            6. Nate has an IBF mandatory due next, and can only get an exception to fight someone else ranked in the IBF top 15, which Guzman is not, so fighting him would cause Nate to be stripped of the IBF title.
            7. Guzman has a pending suspension issue to deal with in Miss., which hasnt yet been resolved.
            8. His complete lack of professionalism, pulling out literally 2 hours before the fight should not be rewarded with an immediate unified title fight.

If anyone needs more reasons, I can keep going.......

Edit: And from Guzman's people's standpoint, this deal makes all the sense in the world. Think about what it will cost them in dollars and in time to have Guzman fight off-tv, and move him back up in the rankings to position for another title shot. Probably a half million or better, and 12-18 months at least. Of course it makes sense for them to offer us this deal. It's a no-brainer for them. But alas, I in fact do have a brain, so its a no-deal on our end.
Damn, looks like it aint gonna happen.

Actually, Julio pulled out on us twice in the past. He was the original opponent when Nate ended up fighting Kid Diamond. Then, after Julio got the title, he chose to sit for 9 months waiting on the Juan Diaz fight, instead of doing his mandatory with Nate.

He no longer has any leverage, however if I'm not mistaken he is scheduled to fight an eliminator for the #2 ranking in the IBF, which obviously would make him unavailable. If he's not, then he'd have no reason to not take the fight, unless he prefers to wait 18 months or more before he could position for the #1 mandatory spot.

Can you name even one other real champion that fought for free? Amateur fights don't count genius.
