Yeah I get what you are saying he was obviously living up to his stuck up arrogant persona when he mentioned that but then reality has obviously struck him and he has realised that he cant go in and fight the top fighters straight away. I completely understand why guys do get pissed off with him though because he shouldnt be as ****y
David Haye Approaches Kevin Johnson For 11/15 Fight

This board is full of hypocrites. First Haye says that he wants to fight Wlad, the no1 in the division, and everybody says that he should work his way up. Now that he is actually fighting a good, undefeated fighter, he is a ***** and avoiding the top dogs and heavy hitters.
I would rather watch Haye fight Johnson than anybody currently in the top 10, apart from Wlad. The top 10 is just full of fat, boring, untalented, has-beens. At least Johnson has some real skill and can actually box, rather than walking around the ring for 45 minutes, throwing nothing, and looking for a KO punch.
Looking forward to the fight if it's made.Comment

Kevin Johnson at this point is probably better than ancient Maskaev and Rahman. Those two are shot to bits, there's no need to see them in the ring again.
The fight doesn't really make sense though, the risk seems pretty high compared to the low reward because almost no one knows who Kevin Johnson even is.
I guess they don't want Haye to fight a heavyweight puncher but it could turn out to be a mistake.
Kevin Johnson would be an idiot not to take this offer. There's a good chance that he gets knocked out but his career is going nowhere otherwise.
His style reminds me of Larry Holmes. Not that he is nearly as good as Holmes was.Last edited by TheGreatA; 09-11-2008, 06:11 AM.Comment

I thought Haye was silly to say he'd be facing a top 10. That was easily going to come back to haunt him, plus it's true there is better prospects and fighters outside supposed and various, top tens anyway. They vary so much, ones in one top ten another fighter in another it really de values saying such a thing anyway unfortunately.
I dont really know too much about Johnson so will reserve judgement for the most part. But given he's a young prospect like Haye, a few have said he's not a huge hitter, it's kind of a wise choice. Haye doesn't wana risk a lucky shot being landed on him and ruining his shot at Wlad.
At the same time this guys not a big name so it won't impact the mainstream awareness and reputation of him too much. In that sense Toney or Rahman would but they are old, perhaps not as testing in some ways but could possibly have the experience and power to threaten his road to Wlad.Comment

Johnson is a smart choice as Haye's first opponent. He has a lot going for him except power - reach, great jab, good reflexes, good chin so far.
He'll make for a decent, interesting fight but is no threat to Haye, except he could win a decision if it goes the distance. At least he'll have a better chance than old Maskaev and Rahman.Comment

Haye was talking all of this crap to fight Kevin Johnson. If Johnson's chin holds up, he will beat Haye. He is about 6'6" with size. Just no punching power. We will see if Haye's chin is truly glass because Johnson aint breaking no bones. Johnson also is ranked by a couple of the belts, so he is fighting an upper echelon fighter. Just not a top 6 guy. He also wants to keep most of the money, so Johnson made even more sense. Choose a guy that is happy for the chance at exposure.Comment
