“The World Boxing Council has tried by all means, and on several occasions, to reach an amicable agreement with the state boxing commission of Mississippi, as we have done with all other boxing commissions in the United States, for the exclusive WBC super lightweight world title fight between champion Timothy Bradley Jr. and challenger Edner Cherry, as well as for the WBC final elimination fight in the featherweight division between Elio Rojas and Hector Velazquez, which are scheduled to be held on September 13 in Biloxi, Mississippi. I don't blame them. Edner doesn't deserve it. Last time he stepped up he was completely outclassed. -
Did you even read the article?
This is insane, The WBC is not refusing to sanction because Cherry is unworthy but because the Mississippi State Commission will not allow WBC neutral judges.
The WBC will not recognize the result and will instead buy tickets and seat their own "official" judges ringside who will then render the verdict that the WBC will ultimately recognize.
First the Soto thing (which was fair but unprecedented) and now this. The WBC thinks it can control the ****in sport. This is the end of boxing as we know it when horese**** like this can be thought up and passed off.Comment

That was the WBO, not WBC.
In that case, the WBO decided beforehand that Lockett would be the mandatory - Pavlik didn't choose his as an opponent.Comment

Well still. Morrade Hakkar vs Bernard Hopkins. Hakkar was a WBC mandatory. Happy?
Or if you want a hand picked opponent....look at edgar sosa's competition.Comment

The **** is wrong with the Mississippi commision? I wonder what their thought process is, it will be interesting to hear their side of the story....
Im assuming that having WBC neutral judges and official have been standard procedure for along time.Last edited by Famoso Matador; 09-09-2008, 09:17 PM.Comment
