I prefer fighters who are in give and take battles, but I also understand and appreciate boxers who move, hit and don't get hit. What I don't like are fighters who talk about ko'ing this one and that one to sell a fight and then employing a hit and run strategy all night and walk away with a boring decision. I think this turns a lot of fans off to pure boxers in general. I have always appreciated the Peps, Pea's and Benitez's, because they were consumate proffessionals. The employed the stategies that was best for them without trying to hype themselves up as something else. Jmo.

I like both kinds but recently i've enjoyed watching people like Calderon who clearly have more boxing skill. Anyone can slug it out, whilst that's fun to watch, it's just fighting at the end of the day. Boxing on the other hand requires a lot more skill than someone who just brawls their way to a victory, you have to be more into boxing to appreciate it though.

I wouldn't call Cotto a brawler he has got some good boxing skills. I have seen Shane mix it up in fights. You can have that smooth movement and still throw punches not just pot shots but 3 or 4 punch combos and then move. When I see a runner I see in my mind a guy who gets ahead on the score cars and then for most of the remaining rounds he is moving turning very rarely throwing a punch maybe not stepping in and finishing or trying to finish a fighrer. I have one example in my mind that sticks out Floyd vs Baldomir here was a guy that was exhausted after chasing Floyd around the ring for 10 0r 11 rounds and to me Floyd never really stepped it up and tried to get him out of there. Guys like Sugar Ray were so elusive they made guys quit from Frustration but when they had to they threw some punches. Look at DLH when he fought trinidad that was running. Some of these guys call what Cotto did running he was not running he was trying to box different from what DLH did. There is a difference between running and boxing. you can also throw clinching in there and then compare that to holding. Clinching is grabbing a hold fighting on the insde tying a guy up holding is constant clinching.....these two can be confused as well.....I prefer a mixture of things in the ring I can enjoy a fighter that moves and makes people miss I can enjoy a good old fashion brawl every now and then what I do hate is sloppy boxing constant holding and guys who run and don't throw punches. Fighter we consider A Class fighting B and C class fighters that don't even attempt to get the oppoenent ot of there.....lefty

Enjoying is different from appreciating, people do appreciate boxing skills but they tend to enjoy on your so called "brawlers", but I prefer to call them real fighters.. "Brawlers" for me, shows more heart, more courage, and that's what people wants. A toe to toe fight trying to knock each other out for 12 rounds can make you stand up from where you are sitting, and that's more enjoyable.

and if all of Ali's fights had been like that, do you think he would have been the most well known fighter of all time? no, no...Ali had his fights with Frazier and Foreman, and thats 3 FOTYs right there.
ali wasn't popular for his fight style he was infamous in his prime.

Casual fans will ALWAYS prefer to watch a come-forward fighter, rather than a defensive/safety first boxer. ALWAYS.
