3 fighters who are in the top 10 P4P in most lists and are considered technical fighters above anything else yet these guys are exciting to watch. Even Izzy Vazquez cant be called a ******, mindless brawler because there is much strategy in what he does. He's offensive and an inside fighter so of course he's going to be hit.

You are right in saying that boxing is about hitting and not getting hit, but it is also about inflicting as much damage on your opponent as possible. If a fighter goes in the ring and is elusive, but only taps his opponent, then what is so great about that? Are you seriously going to be satisfied with appreciating ONLY DEFENSIVE boxing for 12 rounds? Paying fans certaintly won't.

I don't understand why people make it seem so 2 sided. Either you are a defensive mastermind or you are a face first ****** brawler. It isnt like that. For anyone to say that they didnt like Vazquez/Marquez 1,2 and 3 because "it was just ****** brawling" is pretty ****ing ignorant of the sport. The same can be said of anyone who has watched Whittaker and called him a runner.
JMM changed his style so that he would be more interesting to watch.

Raf can be technical but he gets lured into brawls which is why people like to watch him fight.

Mijares is my fav fighter but he is not popular at all.

'hit and dont not get hit', bah. people bring that up to justify runners, when they are completely ignoring the first half of that statement.

guys like Cory Spinks seem to forget the whole 'hitting' part, but are awfully focused on the 'not getting hit' part. does that make him skilled? does that mean he deserves to win his fights, even though hes doing no damage at all? hes only doing half of what hes supposed to to deserve the win.

and people forget that 'brawling' can be very skillful too. what takes more skill, using your natural foot speed to avoid contact with another fighter, or sitting there in the pocket blocking and dodging punches?

i prefer a boxer who can hit and not get hit while actually pressing the fight........like duran........hell thats why winky is my favorite...IMO it takes much more skill to hit and not get hit when you put yourself on the line..........

Like it or not, Boxer/Punchers are what made this a popular sport with the mainstream. Name the most famous boxers of all time and the majority of them did not fight like Cory Spinks.

              Ali
              Louis
              Robinson
              Leonard
              Hagler

Were these guys ****** brawlers? Where they just mindless skill less sluggers? These fighters would entertain today. The fact that fighters became business men and pre madonnas in the ring is what caused the sport to lose the limelight. I understand that I am not the one in the ring risking my life, but this is a business of entertainment which I pay to see. If a fighter is telling me he is going to go into that ring and cause all kinds of pain and I should pay to watch it, I sure as hell have the right to criticize him if he goes in there and plays 12 round tag.

I can apperciate what "runners" and pure boxers do, I realise it takes alot more skill than having a good chin, work rate and power but OFTEN I find it really boring. Sometime they are enjoyable like whenever Roy wons a ud or Calderon, Whitaker. Mayweather's boxing involves potshotting and that is something I don't enjoy watching but it only against bigger fighters where he's done that.

Fights that are considered "boxers" are often highly enjoyable like Leonard, Ali, Robinson but the reason they were enjoyable is because there styles were so diverse that they could brawl if they wanted to and box when it helped them

thats running. the fight changed a lot as it progressed, and Ali hurt Williams multiple times.
and if all of Ali's fights had been like that, do you think he would have been the most well known fighter of all time? no, no...Ali had his fights with Frazier and Foreman, and thats 3 FOTYs right there.
