"Lying or hyping a fight" you say??? .....How the blazes were you able to so accurately see what was in my mind, and probably in the minds of 95% of the posters on this site.

Boofie..you are a genius...undiscovered, of course, and unappreciated, definitely, but a regular genius. I stand in awe.

Even before any notion of this fight existed, I've heard Manny once say he admired Oscar most. Even before Oscar and his promotional outfit tried to snag him into signing up.

Or, as my dear late saintly grandmother used to say..." a regular jennet". Of course being European, she didn't speak much English, and what she did speak was hard to understand, but I'm certain of the "jennet".

I even looked it up in a dictionary, and, if I wanted to be honest, I couldn't disagree with her. I hope Boofie, that the same applies for you.

It's easily conceivable that he did say this, and from time to time might even feel this. But I am convinced that as far as being a MAN and a FIGHTER are concerned, he was welded to Flash Elorde, who in the Phillippines achieved almost saintly eminence-the Phillipines all-time #1.

Perhaps Manny admires Oscar's gift of having money flow towards him from all directions, andcwhy not. I admire it myself. This could be a powerful motivator for a poverty stricken lad with a background like Manny's. I admire his achievements, and his desire to give back to the Phillippine People.

I think that is reading too much into it. I don't really know exactly what he meant so I'll take it at face value... that he was a big fan of De la Hoya. After all DLH was THE name when Manny was just starting to get his career into high gear. I'm sure he also admired the Flash.

That's pretty clever to call me Eddie "Gargle", I should have figured I was leaving myself open to a right cross liike that. But it shows your good-nature. You could've called me a lot worse.

Whilst we're on the subject...well we are...sort of, and seeing that I was born and raised in Ireland, my favourite gargles were "Guinness"...for thirst and conviviality, and both "Tullamore Dew" and "Paddy" for more serious, discoursive evenings.

They both were made in County Cork, where my maternal family came from. I couldn't get them when I arrived here, I tried, and today I'd be afraid to ask anyway, since I'd need a budget like Oscar's to pay for them, and I only have, comparatively speaking, a budget like Manny's.

You may be right, but I don't think that Oscar was THE NAME when Manny was beginning to get into hight gear. In 1997, Oscar was fighting a worn-out Sweetpea Whitaker, and a well past his best Macho Camacho, who'd had over 65 fights already, whilst Manny won the OPBF title, and was WBC World Flyweight Champion tghe next year, so there was nothing much about Oscar that he'd even be bothered to admire. Just my opinion.

It was another 12 fights and 3-4 years, before Manny got to America, and Las Vegas to fight Ledwaba. I believe my opinion on Flash Elorde is pretty accurate.

Still, as you point out, you don't know really what he meant...well neither do I. I'm just making an educated guess, based on available facts and logical reasoning, and could be completely wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.
                  \
But when asked, and even when not asked, he always said, "Flash Elorde".

Looking at that photo, wouldn't you say that Manny was almost as tall as Oscar, [who was carefully posed further from the camera] You can also see that Manny's underarm, "hitting muscles are very well developed, particularly the left side. Oscar's arms and shoulders, by comparison, look less developed. Perhaps with his inactivity, he has lost enough muscle, to be able, when he trains away the fat, to make 147 easily enough.

Do you think that the "muscle" department could be camera staged? Inactivity DOES do this, as I personally know very well.
