How about Vanes versus Richard Guttierez, now that would be some clash. Guttierez is one of those very respectable bottom half of the top ten guys who would let us know immediately if Vanes was the goods. Guttierez can box and punch and throws well in combinations, plus he's durable.

They are trying to put Vanes in there EASY. Chill out with the real contender talk.Comment

ok man my turn
Ronnie is a good fundamentally sound trainer and yet Vanes is still doing the same mistakes he has had since his pro debut. He bounces so he still kind of fights in an amatuer style, his footwork is ok but I really haven't seen a leaps and bounds improvement for a 20-0 uber prospect like you claim. His style is straight up and down and he jerks his head back straight rather than at an angle and that is begging for a left hook to come crashing down.
Vanes is gifted with 2 things that you CANT teach though... some serious power, and a great chin.. so if you think its guys like Medina or Angulo that are gonna stand in his way... you have NO idea my friend.
and his chin I hear aint **** but whatever.
lol look at you all butt hurt because someone questions the all mighty Vanes.
again where did I say ANYTHING about Angulo and his chances with the almighty Vanes?
you got all booty swole when someone said he would beat the all mighty Vanes and said the dumb statement that this Medina dude is very comparable to Angulo did you not? a statement me and Ryan both disagreed to vehemently
as opposition gets better, he tends to step his game up.. as he often does in sparring against the likes of Hopkins, Karmazin, Bika, Manfredo
nobody has seen the REAL Vanes yet.
and so then would you call Cisse Salif a bonafide contender since he spars with everyone under the sun and does so very well I might add?
you do know Salif right?
sorry man I know you were expecting a bunch of "yay Vanes" and "OMG Vanes I heart you" but I aint the oneComment

Derwin is the one who does the pad work with Juan so I would assume that he does it for Vanes. But for a fact I know that it is not Ronnie. Ronnie might tell him what to do, but to actually go in there and show him step by step and angle by angle what to do, NO. Ronnie basically over looks the training. Sets up a game plan, but that is it. No getting in there with the fighter and getting the mitts on. Derwin does most of the training for the fighters. And he is not experioenced. I am not saying that he isnt good, I am just saying the only fighter of note he trains is Juan. He does a little with Holyfield, and Jose, and Hylon JR., but he is not the full fledged trainer.
Hylon Williams aka big Ced is the third man or trainer as you would say. I was a trainer under and with him for a while. I know what goes on at Savannah's, so dont come with your bull**** and trying to trick these people into believing you. You cant fool me, I know all of the trainers there and most of the fighters there. You are making your self look dumb.Comment

Ronnie does the training from the outside of the ring because his health problems prohibit him from getting in there and being active.

I could care less if you are or not bro... means nothin to me.. i can see you pick up avatars and signatures of the hottest fighter around and probably dump them soon as they lose... let it be.
some of what you say makes ok sense and I wont argue with you.. but Vanes has fought some seirous veterans that would have... as you say "exposed" him if his defense was so weak.. well they havn't, in fact they have choked very badly.. most recently Angel Hernandez.
anyhow.. every fighters can be nitpicked and criticized, especially a 22 year old prospect... the raw material is there and we both know it.. whether it takes another 5 fights or 10 for it to purify... doesn't matter to me, as long as it DOES.
Top Rank and Shelly don't put their money, time, and energy in just anybody... good things will come in 2009... for now Vanes needs to handle his business against a decent undefeated prospect lookin for an upset.Comment

Vanes would be too quick for a guy like Angulo or Gutierrez.
BUT they are definitely just as strong as him and throw nasty bombs that always give them a chance to KO anybody.
Vanes's skill could overcome both of themComment

when did I bull**** you or anyone, i stated a simple fact that Ronnie trains Vanes and has given him great pointers... You may hold the spit bucket for Vanes and other fighters at Savanah kid.. but don't come here all excited thinkin you know this and that.
I obviously know Vanes better than you.. and Im sure Ronnie as well.. how well they work together in and out of the gym you will never know better than me.
continue with your work.Comment

Still, Vanes is a decent fighter with some hand speed, he just doesn't rely enough on his jab for my taste.Comment
