the truth is that both showed trmedous huevos. but Vargas went out by brutal KO. and miguel took a beating also, but he did quit, first he took a knee and then he went down without taking a punch and his uncle understood that and trew in the towel. that is the truth. so my vote has to go with vargas all the way.

both had hevos no doubt but think of the outcome of both fights. or even better watch them again.

          VARGAS VARGAS VARGAS!

Vargas ALWAYS came forward no matter who he fought.
Vargas was hurt badly twice in round 1 of his fight with Tito and came back and turned the table on Trinidad.
So much so that Trinidad had to low blow Vargas NUMEROUS times(It seems this is something peurto rican fighter tend to do when you get the best of them i.e Cotto) and lets not forget Vargas floored Tito.
          Vargas is the ultimate warrior.
If you wanted to built the ultimate warrior or soldier clone Fernando's heart and put it in every soldier or warrior.
To me a true measure of a fighter...the defining quality in my opinion is how he responds when he is hurt
I have always said Tito was overrated because when he gets in trouble he folds.
          Same with Mike Tyson.
I know many of you wont agree but the truth HURTS.

The answer to that is easy, FERNANDO VARGAS. Vargas was down how many times? and each time got up and went back to war. Cotto in the other hand was to scared to go down by a punch so he took a knee, got up got hit a couple times backed into the corner and took another knee and quit. Where's the comparison here. Even with the last knock down vargas got up and wanted to continue. Sorry i sound so angry but there is no comparison here on who showed more heart. Not to mention vargas was taking those shots from probably the hardest hitting WW or jr. middleweight this sport has ever seen.
            ****** question & Easy answer?
Vargas was down a bunch of times so that automatically wipes Cotto from having heart?
            It's not a ****** question! It's DEBATABLE. Your opinion is just close-minded.
If you or ANYONE picks Vargas - I can understand why, but don't act like Cotto had no heart just because in your opinion Vargas had more.

Cotto felt defeat coming for the first time, was smart enough to take a knee cause he knew he reached his limit, but he's discredited because he wasn't knocked down?!
WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HEART NOT ******ITY.

You think adversity comes ONLY AFTER YOU GET KNOCKED DOWN. So of coarse in your opinion it's gonna be Vargas! HE WENT DOWN EARLY!

But Heart is your ability to rise up against tough adversity in the ring, no matter how grave the the circumstance or situation becomes.
That point of adversity hit REALLY early for Cotto against Marg. THAT'S the point you have to measure from. NOT THE END WHEN THE FIGHT WAS OVER.
From the point he realized that Marg could take his best hit in round 2, through the score card shift and broken nose midway, those late rounds he was STILL hitting accurately and moving good, regardless of the look of defeat on his face in those last 4 rounds.

He didn't dodge a guy who's avoided by some of the best, AND EVEN AFTER A DEFEAT LIKE THAT, he says he's gonna fight him again one day.

You pick Vargas? good for you.
But DON'T discredit this question as being ****** or not debatable just because you think adversity means being knocked down.

you also have to factor in that whenever Vargas took over, Tito hit him low, but Vargas kept going. Cotto didn't experience anything close to that. He was just beaten up by a slow guy with no wrinkles to his game. Vargas was in with a truly great fighter and didn't back down for a second
