Tito placed his punches very well, no question about that. He always made the most of an opening.
I'm just not sure punching power is a technique or skill in and of itself.
The accuracy of landing them the way Tito did, however, is a skill/technique.
Still, accuracy and power aside you have to admit Tito was probably the least skilled fighter of his era. He was just ridiculously good at picking his spots and making the most of any given opportunities.
tito wasn't built like a foreman, or a frazier, or a tyson or a shavers, or a louis.he was a skinny armed dude. his placement of punches was his skill.
First off, Miguel Cotto is a much better fighter than Felix Trinidad ever was. This always catches flack with Tito supporters but Trinidad was as one dimensional as one dimensional can get. He was a power puncher who always relied on the big shot to end the fight. Any time he was ever in over his head he showed a fundamental lack of ability to adapt. (See the first 8 rounds against Oscar, the entire Hopkins fight, and the Wright fight.)
Cotto is superior to Tito is ever possible aspect of the game, save for power punching. He can box when he needs to, he moves his head well, great ring movement, he's a better technician, etc....
Tito could not run from Tony, because A.) he's too prideful and B.) he's too ****** to know how. So his only choice would be to brawl Margarito. It then becomes a question of who's chin or body would break first, and that's up for debate.
One thing I know for sure is that if Trinidad couldn't take it, he wouldn't last as long as Cotto did because he isn't smart enough to get out of the way of incoming damage.
tito has 4 things that cotto doesn't:
1) tito was a 12 round fighter and didn't gas. That means that Margarito's pressure aint gonna do jack to Tito like it did to Cotto cause Cotto is at best an 8 round fighter.
2) Tito will throw lowblows to get a rest. see vargas/tito where after the lowblow Tito took over.
3) Tito wont be a midget standing next to Margarito. Margarito is good at fighting little guys, but when matched up with someone that is as big as him, Margarito struggles... see Marg vs. Clottey, Santos, and especially Williams.
4) Tito has 1 punch KO power. Cotto wins by accumulation of punches, especially to the body. Tito could end a fight with one punch. I don't know how long Margarito would last against Tito's power, but I don't think Margarito can consistently take shots from Tito from rounds 1-12. With Margarito's ****ty defense I'm pretty sure Tito would KTFO Margarito in stunning, humilating, emphatic, and hillarious fashion.
Prime Tito beats Margarito by UD. Both fighters would be able to take eachother's punches and neither would gas which there would go Margarito's advantage that he has in most fights so it would all come down to who has the better defense which is Tito. he would be able to avoid gettin hit clean a lot better than margarito while landing precise power shots. so yea Tito beats my boy Margarito...

I gotta disagree, the better chin ususally wins and I think Tony's bigger and too physical for Tito. Just cuz Tito's now a fat ass does not mean he's bigger. I think we'd all be surprised once we seen them standing face to face. The better CHIN usually wins in these cases.

I mean I'd change a few points, but this is just about right on. Good post lol.
No brawler ever stood his ground against Tito, especially at 147. Tito was beaten by jabbers and movers, all undefeated brawlers who faced him ended up looking at the lights, some were never the same after wards.
