Pav's fans will claim Cal is scared of him just like Williams fans say Margs is scared of a rematch, just like Cotto and Margs fans say Floyd is scared or ducking these two. These Pav, Margs, and PAc fans want their favorite fighters/champions to fight old men lol. That is what is so comical about these fanatical fans. Valero, Abraham and Paul Williams are right in your face, and you cry, "Cal didn't want it with Pav, Floyd don't want it with Margs, Margs don't want it with Williams"...lol comical. Roach tells Pac to take the offer because he wants to get rich, and that you can beat Dlh, he is old. Comical. Arum fighters...

I think Pavlik should just fight Hopkins and then move on and forget about fighting Calzaghe. Joe just does not want to fight Pavlik for some reason.
Pavlik should get the Hopkins fight over with and win or lose, concentrate on Abraham.Comment

Joe doesn't need Pavlik. Because he mentioned him as a possibility, PAv fans jumped on that, and when the fight didn't go down, as usual, they like Cotto and Margs fans call a fighter scared. You won't see this happen when their fighter is old, and a young gun is doing the same thing to their fighter. Asking for a fight, and when he doesn't get that fight, call their man a coward. Just look at how Margs fans are flipping when people say he doesn't want to fight Williams. This is why I never call fighters cowards. It puts a foot in your mouth.Comment

I think we must all be conditioned into slightly less positive articles and words on Calzaghe, because this one surprised me. A good article but a little over the top in places, he hasn't faced amazing opponents. I'm surprised people haven't spotted the contradictions in Joe and Enzo's words here so I'll help them out. Joe essentially says if he performs well he'll be happy and reture. Enzo kind says the same, but then kinda suggests if he fights well he could fight on. Joe also said this before, that he'd stop as his performances are lower. So if it was good surely by that logic he'd fight on?
Anyways that's getting the pyscho analysing out of the way. Essentially Joe knows he's slipping but wants a good performance to go out on. That's all he's saying. As much as we'd love to see him face Pavlik we can't always get what we want in boxing so it's up to him to retire as planned or fight on. It's like a un-planned, un-expected extra if he fights on though, which ppl need to understand.Comment

I have to agree... these boards here are really crazy... dudes are too emotional... and can't see the truth anymore...
I'm European and I probably never even heard of Joe Calzaghe until the Lacy fight... so I don't know him that much and I'm also not a big fan of him but still have to say that the hate really reaches ''Mayweather-Europeans'' peak level...
First of all even though it's hard to believe for some1... yes, we Eurpoeans also got boxers around here... not everybody who boxes in Europe was a cab driver or whatever... the Europeans lean forwards more to the old school of boxing... defense... jab... etc. The American way in most cases are a little bit more the athletic kind of boxing as I call it... reflexes... foot speed etc. The American way is more flashier but it doesn't mean that it always has to be better... with that been said I myself believe that the best boxers are in America... but it doesn't mean that a fighter who fights in Europe only fights bums...
I think Joe C. is an very good fighter... he ain't get his probs because he never had an prime opponent who was seen as prime in the eyes of American... Jeff Lacy was hyped up and Joe showed that there is a league between them... he has good handspeed... he has a knowledge of boxing and can adapt to something that shouldn't have happened (which only a few can)... he has heart... and he fights...
I think against a Prime RJJ he would have lost an decision to answer that question... Joe is very good and deserves to be mentioned along the best of all time at SMW because of his accomplishments... I mean if you talk about Hopkins as one of the best at MW... he's the same as Calzaghe... he unified all the titles... against let me say normal, good whatever (definitely not great) opposition and both have around the same title defences... so the only thing that makes them different is that Hopkins is American and Calzaghe is European... that's all... Hopkins good competition was American and American good competition is judged as better then European good competition. So there you have the different...
Again to those folks who talking about BS decisions in Europe... of course there were some... no question about it... but I think America don't have to blaze themselves in glory... when it comes to some decisions in America... so yes, it happens everywhere in Europe but also in America... don't hang your hut up to high fellaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...
I personally think that Calzaghe simply doesn't do himself a favour... against Hopkins it was clear that he is going to look bad (who doesn't)... against Roy Jones he will look bad for parts... and if he retires he will retire with probably two wins in America but without looking impressive and without showing his best abilities... I think a Pavlik fight if he feels that he has something left would be perfect for him... Pavlik plays right into the strengths of Joe... this one should be a really good fight and something that will be worthy of Joe.
With that been said... I pray that Roy Jones can grab deep into him and bring it one more time... MSG... Jones still has faster hands... the workrate could be a problem... it is good that Joe isn't the strongest punchers... so Roy's feet ain't the same anymore... if Roy really shows up to fight... this could be better then many think... still think that Calzaghe will win a decision... but I hope that Roy really turns up to fight...

Their is a reason Calzaghe chose Jones for his last fight. He would not have fought Jones 5 years ago. He chose him now for his name not the challenge. Lacey, Kessler, Calzaghe, these were all good wins for Joe but not great. Those are 3 fighters in 45 fights. Joe spent 10 years being a euro fighter and to put him in the p4p top 5 you are mental. What means more than if you win is how you win. Pavlik would punch his ****ing lights out and Joe knows it.
Then who is it, exactly, you want Calzaghe to fight? Pavlik? It would be another easy decision for Calzaghe, Pavlik's career would be ****ed up for at least 18 months (not to mention the permanent loss of that zero in his loss column) and everybody would be screaming that Pavlik was overrated and Calslappy is a joke...not much different from right now, except that Calzaghe would be out the huge payday from the Jones fight. How the **** would that be better for Calzaghe, can you tell me?
I give Jones a better chance (albeit a slim one) of beating Calzaghe than Pavlik, Taylor, Kessler, or anyone else for that matter. His conditioning is the only reason I wouldn't make him a slight favorite for a decision win over Calzaghe. And the reason Calzaghe is taking this fight over a match with anyone else is obvious...PAYDAY. He's retiring and wants to bank some cash. Him canning his promoter ought to clue you guys into that, at the very least...he wants that money himself.Comment

Yes, but so is the biased love for Joe. Seriously its wierd. He good and a good guy. Definetl a British legend and a top name all time at 168 lbs. Is he an all time P$P legend? IS he p4p today? I don't think he is. MAYBE top 10.Comment

I think for Calzaghe's sake, Roy Jones better look damn good on November 8th. Not flashes of greatness but full motion pictures. And that Joe himself brings his A game. It's the only way he'll get respect for this fight, especially if it's his last.Comment
