Margarito Swings Back at De La Hoya, Answers Williams

I had much respect for Margarito because of his valiant approach to boxing, a fighter who does absolutely the limit with the average quality skills he has. Where he shines is in monster sized heart and courage.

As I've said may times, he reminds me so much in every way, of Gaspar "El Indio" Ortega.

Now, after reading his story, assuming that it is basically his own, and not crafted by a PR guy, I have even more respect for him. A fighter who's been hit on the chin as many times as Margarito has been, to still have all his senses unimpaired is astonishing. And not very common.

Since Oscar, for some reason unknown to me, is a "cash cow" and has been floating all sorts of funny ideas for his last fight, I see nothing wrong with Margarito wanting to fight him to get a big payday. He deserves it.

The problem is that Oscar wants a smooth, brave, victorious, undamaged exit from the boxing stage, and if he fights Margarito he's CERTAIN to have a very rough, stormy, bruising, rib cracking retirement fight, perhaps a bad beating, but certainly a collector's array of different coloured bruises.

He doesn't want that....and I don't blame him. But he should be more honest about it. Oscar being honest about anything to do with money, is a very rare happening, and this farewell fight is no different. He needs a heavy application of cash to ease him into retirement, according to the standards he's become accustomed to receive from all us suckers.

Great article. DLH just got his card pulled. I, like many others want to see DLH fight Tony. I find it funny that Williams beat Margarito and is the one calling for a rematch. People would be in an uproar if they heard Tony was begging Cotto for a rematch right now. The winner of a fight doesnt beg for a rematch.

Oscar does it all the time, to follow your logic,that would make him pathetic all the time.... Obviously, one will always wish to make the most money possible, SO NO IT'S NOT PATHETIC!!! Case in point, Manny is requesting a 60/40 split, Oscar according to reports will not budge from his 70/30 demand, as a result, now they both lose out because the fight supposedly won't happen now...we'll see

i think deep down in his heart williams knows he lost that fight and he wants to prove to himself that he can beat margarito since it was so close. but margarito being the true warrior that he is asked for the immediate rematch and williams didnt want it.

I guess its a sin to want to unify now. Good lord you people amaze me. You hate it someone doesnt unify, unless its your own fighter, then its excusable. Margarito is NOT getting Oscar, its NOT gonna happen.
