To me if you fight in the division for a title, thats the division you're in. Mayweather showed that he could be competitive with welterweights and beat them. He was a welterweight.

I've never been convinced that Hatton was a true welterweight.
I agree with you on that (Hatton not a welterweight, truly) but it's Floyd's skill level, not his size that allows him to be competitive against bigger guys as it is with all/most fighters of a certain Class and that's the reason Hatton has a good chance of beating Pac (skill level is pretty close).

Hatton was 154ish on fight night. Floyd was 148.

Weight is what makes you a certain class, not necessarily your ability to fight bigger guys. That is my opinion.

Ruiz could probably beat Mormeck, but not Roy Jones. Yet, Mormeck is more of a heavyweight than Roy Jones. Nahmean?
I definitely get where you're coming from and points taken.

To say Floyd is a better welter is misleading in this discussion because Floyd is a better fighter than Hatton at any weight .
That last sentence was a very good thought. It clarifies everything.

I think something is hidden in the record here. The reality is that Hatton's move to 147 coincided with him fighting BETTER OPPOSITION (younger, faster, fresher) than he had been fighting.

If you look at hatton's history at 140, it is chock full o' senior citizens. he was able to out-physical those guys on the sheer basis of youth, speed, stamina. Even kostya Tszyu. Zoo was 36 and it was still a close fight.

However, hatton looked iffy against Urango (faded late), Collazo (almost KO'd late), and mayweather (Ko'd late). Notice a trend?

There's a big difference in Cool Vince Phillips (40)/ Freddie Pendleton (38) and then you fight Collazo and mayweather.

          The difference is age...not size.

You're right, having the same arm length as Wladimir Klitschko (26") doesn't help him in the slightest.

You think so? i think there's something special about the classic weights. Especially 135, 147 and 160. There's such a sense of history there.

                Even JCC/Pea was at WW.

Since both fighters are non American, wonder if Pacquiao would even entertain the thought of having the fight @ Wimbeldon or whatever venue they have in Brittanica.

If they want to do that they should just fight in Dubai and get paid an insane ammount of cash.
