De la Hoya vs Quartey....Was Quartey robbed of a hard earned victory?

Every time i see this fight i think **** man how can they give it to de la hoya. It's like the judges gave dlh 3 points for the final round. Quartey was giving de la hoya all he can handle. Quartey's killer jab was on point almost all night. he even floored delahoya with a hook (quartey down twice). Delahoya knew he was down his own trainers were telling he needed a knock out in the corner before the 12th began. And you can see the way de la hoya came out in the twelve HE ABSOLUTELY KNEW he needed a ko to win the fight. Quartey was one the most underrated guys in boxing. I think him and clottey are very much alike in that their great fighters not realitevely known.

Hard to call a close fight a robbery but I've watched that fight a million times and each time Ike wins close but clear. Emphasis on clear. ****, even Harold "I Worship Oscar" Lederman had Quartey winning the fight. The late, great Eddie Futch said it was decisions like that that made him walk away from the sport.

It was a close fight, I think DLH won the fight because of that last round but I have no problem with people have Quartey winning.

Quartey clearly won that fight. If people feel De la Hoya put enough rounds in the bag against Trinidad to win that fight. Quartey definitely put enough rounds in the bag to win the fight with De la Hoya.

yes i remember eddie futch saying that! Every time i see the fight yes it's a close fight but ike wins it every time i see it! The whitaker fight for dlh was VERY VERY close as well he should be happy with that decision. Chavez getting a draw against whitaker was a shame too especially since that fight wasnt that close and whitaker CLEARLY beat chavez that night. Definetely some bad decisions in our time. I think i remember reading the judges were scared to give the fight to whitaker in mexico fearing for their safety.

Heres my opinion. I had Quartey up by 2 points going into round 12. Obvisouly with the 2 point swing b/c of the KD, I had it a dead heap at 114-114. Quartey did more then Oscar in the fight, I thought he fought with his heart on his sleeve, and if there was anyone who deserved to iwn that night it was Ike "Bazooka" Quartey. DLH looked tghe beaten fighter, he was hit with hard crisp right hands all night. He was lets face it, beaten up. Now as to where Quartey got robbed. Ike Quartey in my opinion, robbed himself point blank. The guy was a ****ing stud in the ring who has possessed one of the best jabs the sport had ever seen and a huge right hand to go along with it during his tenure in the WW division. Quartey simply robbed himself b/c of inactivity, and too much of it. He hadn't fought for a year and a half previous to this fight. And yes ODLH had postened the fight I believe 2-3 months, but even still a World Class fighter cannot simply fight once in a full year and expect to come back crisp and in World Class condition. If you watch the last round of this fight, after the KD, Ike is laying on the ropes, DEAD tired just throwing these looping slow shots back at DLH for about 40 secs, while DLH tries to stop him right then and there. He faded fast in the later rounds, where his punch output went drastically down from I think 70 punches a round early, firing off like 30 jabs in certain rounds, to 40-50 punches in the championship rounds. That being said, his 40-50 punches were still at time doing more damage then DLH's point blank.

Quartey then took another year off in his next fight against Fernando Vargas, and he looked very sluggish in this fight. Ike was always a high paced fighter, who threw a lot of punches and threwq them with dangerous intent. But in hjis 2 biggest fights of his career, he ROBBED himself of the ability to win thesed 2 fights hands down because of way to much inactivity..................

Yeah man Chavez Whitaker was not even close. I score it 118-110. And easy win for Whitaker who made Chavez look like he belonged in Head Gear and fighting for his country!!
