I think the challenge for us all is to be able to talk about it without the competition becoming between us. Really, I totally understand why you think I'm crazy, and I don't state that its fact, its just my opinion. The problem here is that you believe that your assessment is factual, like lots of people here do, which is obviously very annoying for anyone arguing with you.
I see what I see...what I call a fighter who looks like a ***** fighting his way out of spiderwebs. My humerous descripton of his style. While it's not fact that's how I see it. You choose to give me a long description of his beautyful ring mastery like he is Ali or something.......that is annoying.

Opinion or factual? Is it not true that he fought the vast majority of his career in the UK against undeserving WBO appointed mandatories??? Only finally getting a big Unification fight at 168 once another champion finally decided to come to Wales. Is that opinion or fact?

Arguing back and forth with Kessler about whether the fight should be in Denmark or Wales and Kessler finally giving up and accepting his terms since Joe was looking for another way out.......in Jermain Taylor, after he saw his poor performance against Kassim Ouma. Yet refusing a fight with Pavlik since Kelly didn't have any weak performances. You really think that Calzaghe wouldn't have taken a fight against Kelly if he had struggled to a split decisoin against Gary Lockett. He would've sign the contract in a heart beat.

I see what I see......I could be wrong but I doubt it.

People tend to have short memories; a dominant win soon overshadows the split decision that preceeded it, and vice versa.
This is a problem with P4P in general. Its basically a glorified all-weights ranking system based on record. Whatever happened to who beats who if they are the same weight? That is, who is the most talented at what they do.

I was discussing this with a few guys the other day and we realised that in order to compose a list like that you'd have to watch a phenomenal amount of boxing. Believe it or not, even though they were all real hardcore boxing fans, none felt competent to produce a ten!

Do you reckon you could try? I would suggest (in no order) Calzaghe, Pacquiao, Mijares, Nonito Donaire and Kessler might appear, but thats just going off what I've seen.

      • What a dumb thread, Badger. You're my boy but this is ridiculous.

Pacquiao has fought loads of better competition. And he was doing so when Joe C. was another anonymous European titleholder.

I think you subject Joe to a level of scrutiny that you do not subject other fighters too, precisely because he is one of the best boxers in the world right now and you don't want him to be. I think your starting point with him is one of disdain so you see everything he does/ has done in the worst possible light. (Now is where you tell me I wear rose coloured glasses). Possible?

I agree, I posted that Pacquiao deserves his P4P ranking based on his resume just a couple of posts back. I do not think he is a better boxer than Joe Calzaghe though.

I am on a propaganda war at the moment, so don't mind me.

I think Pacquiao is just as much of an athlete as Joe C. And neither really depend on sound boxing fundamentals, so iff Joe is the better boxer it's marginal.
