Haha. That article pissed me off too. As for Reid, Brewer, Mitchell and indeed Woodhall's status as ex world champs, it is a funny one. Bottom line is that the US had no interest in SMW at the time because it had been a Brit dominated division for quite a while. As you say, you point out the status of these guys and it all just goes quiet. One analogy I like to make is what may happen to Jermain Taylor in future. Right now he's seen as an 'elite', but if he were to say face Froch and lose, then never get another title, his career would be quite similar to Mitchell. Eight years from now he might very well be regarded exactly the same, with everyone saying "Taylor who?". It wouldn't change the fact that at the time he was seen as a good boxer. People have short memories, or to be fair, maybe just short lives so far.

Because Kessler hasn't done anything to call himself a great fighter. Hopkins was a great fighter only two years ago. Kessler has never been. He may be great, but you gotta prove that by beating live bodies.

Hell, nobody thought Calzaghe was anything until 2006 because he hadn't beaten anybody. As long as Kessler keeps fighting these European bums, nobody will ever consider him a great fighter.

Exactly. Calzaghe's big accomplishment is defending his title for 10 years or something. And against WBO mandatories nonetheless. It means absolutely nothing.

                      IMO that is Correct.

Is it fair to say that Calzaghe's biggest win and biggest name fights were past there prime?

Old man Eubank made him popular and Grandpa Hop added a great to his resume.

So to answer the question, HOP will go down in the HOF as an ATG/LEGEND. Who else on his record will/has?
