Bottom line is that the US had no interest in SMW at the time because it had been a Brit dominated division for quite a while. As you say, you point out the status of these guys and it all just goes quiet. One analogy I like to make is what may happen to Jermain Taylor in future. Right now he's seen as an 'elite', but if he were to say face Froch and lose, then never get another title, his career would be quite similar to Mitchell. Eight years from now he might very well be regarded exactly the same, with everyone saying "Taylor who?". It wouldn't change the fact that at the time he was seen as a good boxer. People have short memories, or to be fair, maybe just short lives so far.

Because Kessler hasn't done anything to call himself a great fighter. Hopkins was a great fighter only two years ago. Kessler has never been. He may be great, but you gotta prove that by beating live bodies.
