He could get knocked down, but I would say it's because of the nature of his unorthodox style. Even Whitaker could not always get away with the things he does.

I remember Whitaker once landed over 500 punches in one of his fights. He does work more, even at higher weights. That particular fight was at welterweight (against Santos Cardona).

Mayweather waits for his opportunities to land a counter punch while Whitaker creates them with his jab and feinting.
Who would you lean towards in this fight?? I'm undecided for now...

for one, if mayweather knows/feels hes down, he ups his punch output and will go toe to toe, he doesnt just sitback and wait if he knows for a fact he might be losing, its exactly what he did in the first jose luis castillo fight. For two, mayweather at 130/135/140 was far more active on his punch output, sure hed be conservative for the first few rounds, but if he knew there was an opening, hed open up on you. With Whitaker and Mayweather, but of them would be looking for oppurtunities, Whitaker would be forced to respect mayweathers speed and mayweather would respect his defense, it wouldnt be a high punch output for neither fight because there would be very few oppurtunities to even throw anything.

Sweet Pea would definitely have a good chance to beat Floyd. Anyone who thinks otherwise obviously has never seen Pea fight or are just nuthuggers.

Now to think of it, How would Pernell deal with the Mayweather that fought Gatti. Btw I'm still undecided.

Everyone on this thread can agree that Whitaker could beat Mayweather and Mayweather could beat him also.

yes.. exactly what I was thinking... Pretty tough match.. especially both at their primes...

But then again when has mayweather ever not been in his prime... Plus i don't know the lengths of mayweather's abilities because .. honestly.. NO ONE has tested him...

Never down.. never rocked.. never shaky.. never cut (do you count inside lips?)... never looked discouraged...

Thats what makes it hard to tell... I would have to see mayweather tested to make a SERIOUS guess.

Wish he would fight cotto or margorita... and hopefully one of them could Bring out the best... let us see the TRUE capabilities and lentghs of mayweather..

THIS is why it sucks he retired.
