Why did Hopkins choose opponents from smaller weight classes?

-He fought Trinidad since they met at the finals of the middleweight tournament.Bernard Hopkins started as a light heavyweight, but fought opponents like De La Hoya who began as a lightweight, and Trinidad, who started at welterweight.
Now he'll be fighting a young middleweight, Kelly Pavlik, who not as thickly built and walks around at about 175, while Hopkins walks around at 185-190.
Why has he never, never fought anyone from a larger weight class like cruiserweight, and usually fights smaller men?
-Who passes up on a fight with DLH considering the money?
-Proof that Hopkins walks around at 185-190?
-He moved up to light heavyweight and destroyed Tarver.
-He fought many natural middleweights.Comment

so nevermind that the vast majority of Hopkins career was spent at 160 with no issues pertaining to making weight you just go by his one fight at 175, his pro debut mind you, and conclude that he is a natural 175lb fighter. Also did you know he actually made 156 for the DLH fight? oh yeah he was weight drainedComment

I am contrdicting myself by replying to this but oh well. No, he started as a Lightweight. Moved down to junior lightweight to win the title, defended it once and moved back up. He wanted to be a 6 weight champ so he knew he had to get one at Junior Lightweight (As he aint getting to 168), Trust me. I used to love Oscar a lot, you can boxrec it if you want

Hopkins has picked smaller opponents to make himself look good. Hopkins has beat his share of big men as well.Bernard Hopkins started as a light heavyweight, but fought opponents like De La Hoya who began as a lightweight, and Trinidad, who started at welterweight.

I think he was at the olympics, His pro debut as against "Lamar Williams" (Something like that) at lightweight. He moved down a bit into his career to get the title, i think he may have defended it one time but one only then moved back up. I'm 90% sure
