Roy Jones wasn't in his prime excuse debunked

Never thought he won the first fight. Being that I'm as unbiased as they come, I have no problem saying Margarito lost, and yes, I'd love to see a rematch.
So really, what is your point other than having nothing to say regarding the topic?

You would have a credible argument if Tarvers entire fundamental revolved around use of his reflexes but he doesnt, Tarvers entire style of being rangy and using his size and his jab and left hand allow for a far more sound defense that revolves less around moving out of the way and more about actually defending yourself, which roy relied upon. Once roy lost that, he was no longer in his prime. However Tarver is a more traditional fighter, with less fights, and yes, a fresher body does matter, its the same reason Runningbacks in the NFL are finished usually after age 30/31/32, and quarterbacks/linebackers/wide receivers etc can play into their mid 30's, because when your reflexes go, and your whole fight game revolves around it, you wont be the same. Its the difference between a guy like Roy and a guy like Tarver. You can say i am making excuses but i am giving you reasons, you just dont want to see it any other way.
It doesnt matter if tarver was faster or whatever in his mid 20's because he started late, was in the olympics when roy had faced the likes of toney and hopkins, and if he did lose a little bit, it didint matter as much mostly because as i said, his style didint completely revolve around using his reflexes like Roys did, Roy didnt have those fundamentals to really fall back on as he got older, Tarver does, they are 2 completely different fighters, why do you not want to see this
Whether ones game is based on reflexes doesn't matter. Reflexes are still a big part of being able to see the punches and react. Yes, Roy is based more on reflexes than Tarver but it doesn't matter because Tarver was in decline due to natural age as well. No matter what you say, it doesn't refute simple facts. Tarvers style was always trouble for Roy and all 3 fights proved it, prime or not.Comment

I guess we're going to go the Cotto fan route and make the fight only about the rounds your fighter won.
Just great.
How about we remember this,
Tarver KO2 Jones.
I'd say thats alot better than just having someone on the verge of being stopped.Comment

The 3rd fight told the tale of a man who had just been knocked out twice, and was gunshy... nothing more, nothing less.
When you say nobody, do you mean Tarver, Glen Johnson, Sam Peter, Kelly Pavlik, Klitschko, Bernard Hopkins?
Try to read a few articles in your free time.
The third fight was Roy just being Roy when it came to Tarver, getting owned.
and which one of those has he fought as of late?
Articles are pointless if they produce no results.Comment

Tarver couldn't even KO that CRAP english Yorkshire sheep-shagger Clinton Woods in his last fight. Glenn Johnson also brutally KO'd Jones after that. I bet even Calzaghe with his broken hands will get a KO or TKO with Jones shot glass chin.Comment

I don't believe that. A 20 something year old Roy Jones Jr. would have trashed him for 12 rounds. Roy in his mid thirties wasn't the Roy that starched Virgil Hill and Montell Griffin.
Thats my opinion.
In the second fight Roy just got caught, but for some reason I don't see that happening when Roy was younger. Roy faught unconfident after that first fight with Tarver. Tarver gave him trouble and then Roy faught stiff it seemed. And then after the knockouts Tarver had Roy mentally shot. Tarver mentally owns Roy, or at leasts it seems that way. Roy can dominate Tarver (he showed it in flashes) but he got older and Tarver psyched him out.Last edited by Truth; 08-07-2008, 03:15 PM.Comment
