Roy Jones wasn't in his prime excuse debunked

This is my all time favorite Roy Jones Jr excuse as to why he lost.

"He wasn't in his prime anymore"

    Well, geez, guess what?

    Neither was Tarver.

So Tarver was in less fights, big deal, he had a crack addiction which takes just as much out of the body.

This is the funny part though. People love to say how many more fights Roy was in but choose to use selective memory of those fights regarding the situation. In many "lets praise Roy" threads, you'll see many fans post about how Jones was untouchable, rarely if ever lost rounds and couldn't be touched. Here is the funny part. If Roy was all that in those praise threads, how did his body all of a sudden become damaged? I can guarantee someone will come in and say "it was all of his running and training". There, I said it for you guys already.

Running and training and fighting as an untouchable don't make you lose reflexes, the natural aging process does.

    Heres the kicker,

Tarver is older by a few months. Is anyone, somebody going to explain how Tarver was somehow magically as fast in his mid to late 30s as he was in his 20s? At 34 to 37, Antonio Tarver was just as much out of his prime as Roy Jones Jr.

Tarver would beat Jones at any stage of their careers. Jones knew it, thats why he made Antonio literally call him out.

Then Tarver just proceeded to kick his ass.

I've always said Tarver vs Jones would be a close match, even in Jones' prime.

Jones knew it too. But Jones prime is Tarvers prime as well.

Good post Pelon. No offense I like RJJ but I always felt he was gonna get beat at one point. He used his speed and reflexes to avoid getting hit. Ofcourse that would all deteriate over time. Recently he started putting his hands up. Something he isn't accustom to. I hope it isn't to late.

Not quite chief. Nobody said Tarver was in his prime, but he was a YOUNG 37 only having 23 fights. But it wasnt so much the prime but rather gaining all that weight and then losing it all within a short period of time at his age. And if you think that had nothing to do with Jones looking shot, look at Tarver when he fought Hopkins, after doing the same ****, gaining all that weight for the Rocky movie and then losing it quickly.

                  i don't know about that , pelon.

roy turned pro 8-9 years before tarver did. more wear and tear on the body.

besides even if they both deteriorated at the same level.

loss of speed and reflexes would effect roy more. roy was a natural middleweight or super middleweight. tarver is a big light heavyweight.

a 6'2 big light heavyweight with longer reach can compensate for lessening speed and reflexes better than a guy like roy can.

roy also had to come back down after fighting at 197 with john ruiz. that takes a toll on the body especially an old one.

roy in his prime would beat prime tarver. whether antonio would give him problems i don't know but it doesn't change the fact that tarver ain't half the fighter roy is......and that's being overly generous. tarver is ****.

                    not too mention

roy fought much better comp which adds more wear and tear

and of course the whole moving down from heavyweight thing

but thats not a big deal is it?
