I Didnt See The Same Fight As Everyone Else

From the way the media and alot of fans on here talked, I expected to pretty much see Cotto destroying Margarito in the first half of the fight. Then when I watched it, I was totally shocked by what I saw. I was saying to myself "is this the same fight where they said that Cotto was outclassing Margarito early on"? I felt that Margarito was winning just as many rounds as Cotto, if not more. On top of that, I felt from the very 1st second of the fight that Margarito was in complete control. I cant believe that some people felf that Cotto could win by a "wide" UD after 6 rounds. Even at the end of round 1 and definatly by round 2, I felt that Cotto had absolutely no chance of winning that fight. I also felt that Cotto himself felt that way. You could see it on his face when he went to the corner after round 2. He had a look on his face like "what have I gotten myself into"?

The biggest thing that I felt was that even the rounds that Cotto won, were not really winning rounds. By that I mean that it seemed like he won the round by scoring shots out of despiration but Margarito was always clearly in control. You know what Im saying? Its like Cotto may have won a round where he moved non stop and then just fired off a combo because he had to keep Margarito off him, and then moved again instantly but in a desperate type of way. Even when he won a round he was nowhere near in control. I was also shocked of the fact that Margarito made Cotto look like a little boy. Cotto has been so huge compared to his opponents and he looks twice as big as Floyd but he looked like Margarito's son in the ring. For some reason it looked like Cotto was smaller then normal and Margarito was way bigger then normal. I know thats not the case but thats how it looked.

I also stand by what I said about Margarito's chin. I think it is good but I still dont think that you saw it fully tested in these 2 fights because of the fact that both Cotto & Cintron were always going backwards. Those guys hit super hard but they really get there full power when there walking you down and stepping into all of there punches. Its like there digging into you. Basically just like what Margarito is doing to them, you feel me? Its a different kind of punch. Margarito was stepping into Cotto and digging into his body or driving into Cotto over the top. Cotto & Cintron were always throwing off there heels and were just set a few times but they never got to step into there punch and dig shots because of Margarito's pressure and there obvious fear. Still, I couldnt believe the commentators saying how they felt that Cotto was clearly dominating a round. He never ever even came close to doing that. I also felt that his boxing skills were so overrated in that fight. Not from the normal point of boxing but from the point that he really wasnt boxing. He was fighting out of desperation and then moving for his life. He wasnt skillfuly trying to do anything special. It was him just trying to do what he had to do to keep Margarito off of him who I felt was in full control from the very 1st bell. He was never even close to being outclassed

Not much more to say about this fight. Cotto outboxed him for a while but that wasn't gonna last all night and it didn't.

You saw the same fight that I did. But when I said it, it became a big drawn out debate. But like I said, you saw the fight as I did.

I agree DLT. I didn't even consider that boxing. Cotto ran, running in my opinion is to move without throwing a punch and Cotto did alot of that. He would throw a combination and run to another corner of the ring.

The most important thing in scoring a boxing fight is ring generalship and Clean effective punches. Yes Margarito was stalking the entire first half of the fight, but IMO it was Cotto who was controlling the ring, backing up, all the while still landing the cleaner punches. If you listen to every opening to Lederman's scoring from whatever boxing commision a fight is being conducted under, he states, " With a strong emphasis on clean effective punching", now i dont think that Lederman is a GREAT judge, but that is what a lot of the judging aspect is based on. Now with that being said, Marg. DEf has a case for winning 1 out of the first 6, but I dont personally think anymore then that. He was basically giving away the first few rounds, like he always does to set up the later assault that would occur from thr 6th round on. And we all seen what happened from that point on. Cotto wasn't dominating by no means, but he was clearly outboxing Antonio Margarito and was winning damn near every round from 1-6.

Thats my opinion of course. But alot of these judges score a lot of fights on clean effective punches, which is why i think we have such a debate over say the Calz V Hopkins fight. Where the cleaner more effective punches were being landed all night by Bernard Hopkins, yet MORE punches were being thrown by Joe Calzaghe!

I expect nothing less from you when regarding fights concerning Cotto.

What rounds did you have Margarito winning?

I think Marg myself won 1 out of the first 5.
Maybe the second round when he hurt Cotto a little with a bodyshot
then like my brother DT said Marg started to come on after the 6th and picked him apart

Good reply. I had cotto clearly winning 5 out of the first 6, and round 8. Round 9 was pretty hard to call. The only rounds that Margarito clearly won were 2, 7, 10 and 11.

If your asking me...Cotto winning 1,3,4,5,6,9
                  Marg winning 2,7,8,10
                  I believe

I might have scored the 2nd round even the next morning, I'll have to look again, very close round, but after watching it again and again, I think that Marg just really charged forward and was able to back Cotto into a corner and get his shots of moreso that Miguel!
