Jermain Taylor should fight this man, not Lacy.

And regardless of which one he chooses (probably the most lucrative one), there will be a few people out there accusing him of ducking the other ones. For instance, if he can make a deal to fight Kessler for his title and a good payday, Froch fans will be up in arms over Taylor ducking their guy.
For 99% of fights that are made, at least a few people are going to be unsatisfied with the matchup.Comment

Difference being that Calzaghe is an undefeated 10 year, 2 weight champion, arguably P4P number 1 coming to the end of his career. Calzaghe has also made it his intention to keep his 168lb belt to fight Pavlik.
Taylor is coming off two defeats and has been given the oppourtunity to fight for a title in his first bout at a new weight. Taylor has made no intention whatsoever to fight Froch even if he beats Lacy.Comment

You forgot to mention that Jones and Pavlik are both proven fighters who can sell lots of tickets and PPVs, so there's not a huge downside to Calzaghe choosing either fight.Difference being that Calzaghe is an undefeated 10 year, 2 weight champion, arguably P4P number 1 coming to the end of his career. Froch on the other hand is virtually unknown in the United States, unproven, and largely untested, while Lacy on paper at least is a former champion with decent main event TV exposure and he shares a backstory with Taylor to boot. Not only was Taylor offered an "opportunity" to fight for a title, he was also offered an "opportunity" to take less money for what everyone knows is a riskier fight. He was also offered another opportunity to fight an easier fight for more money that will probably allow him to go after whichever belts and paydays he wants.
You act as though Jermain should be grateful that he's getting a title opportunity after two losses and should take whatever he can get, but he seems to have lost very little in the way of popularity, and even gained some respect in his losses to Pavlik. HBO is still interested, the fans are still interested, and so his career is still alive and he has choices. I have a feeling HBO is the key player here; they haven't turned their back on Taylor so he's not going to turn his on them by fighting for a paper title on Showtime.Comment
