    • Emotional beat down.............

I saw it in his face after the 10th. Cotto was emotionally a beatin man. When he answered the bell for the 11th, his face told us all we needed to know. It was over.

His pride was rocked. His body was bruised. His face was bloody. But, I am still haunted by that look in his eyes as the bell rang for round 11th. This is the kind of beating that can end careers.

I was truly worried about what this kind of beat down can do to his head. This man has never tasted defeat in his whole professional career. This is not an easy thing to deal with. To submit to another man by taking a knee. Man, that's harsh. And Cotto is NOT a punk. This is a proud WARRIOR. We all know his history here.

Although a rematch (and the possibility of a trilogy) would be a boost to this sport we love. It may not be what's best for this fighter. It's Cottos head that needs to mend.

      • I really hope Cotto doesn't allow his pride to force him back in too early. He can definitely beat Tony, but it will require a flawless game plan... Fyi, Clotty might actually beat Margo so the rematch may be years down the line.

        • Wasn't Cotto supposed to win the first fight?

Now he should win the rematch?

            • The thing that stands out in my mind was the damage Margarito was inflicting even when he wasn't hitting clean. While he doesn't necessarily have one punch knockout power, he has very heavy hands. He would strike on the shoulders and the concussive impact was enormous. And I don't think anyone is as durable. I have never seen anyone take that many clean power shots and keep coming relatively unfazed. Also while he fights small, he does so in a way that took away Cotto's body attack.

I'm not saying that there is no way that Cotto can win a rematch, but he has to be in the kind of condition to be able to sustain what he did for the first 6 rounds for at least 9 rounds. We're talking about a 50% increase in stamina for an already elite athlete. Is that even possible?

this is correct. also cotto must work on his defense and learn how to pace himself.

I still say that Margarito did everything right from his perspective, everyone says Margarito didn't do anything different. He did what he always does, he used relentless pressure, enormous output, and a good body attack. It always works so why change it?

He had a plan to avoid some of Cotto's power early(which he did, Cotto didn't land to many clean shots in the first round and Cotto took the worse end in the second). Then in the second round Margarito attacked Cotto's body while taking minimum body damage. Margarito did a good job protecting his body, something nobody has given him credit for. This negated Cotto's main tool, his leverage on body shots is different then head shots especially against a taller fighter. Cotto was fighting a taller fighter and getting Margarito with the end of his punches in a lot of cases. Margarito was relaxed if a punch hit him he tended to go with the punch his head popped up from uppercuts, rolled with the head shots making them look worse then they were.

Margarito fought like he had a strong chin against a body puncher a tactic that obviously payed off against the 4 in shorter Cotto. After a sustained attack to the body, Cotto's shots lost quite a bit of power and Cotto was throwing shots that were still power shots but obviously quite easy for Margarito to take.

Since the majority of the damage early on was to the body of Cotto by Margarito people were not realizing how bad Cotto was getting beat up. By the 6th round it was obvious that Cotto was getting beat up. Watch the first and second, every time Margarito landed a body punch Cotto stopped and moved away. Why do you think he was fleeing?

Cotto may be able to beat Margarito but it won't be by using all these tactics you guys are talking about. He can't fight Margarito in the center of the ring, his footwork isn't good enough to bounce around and set before Margarito, unless he is willing to sacrifice a lot of his power. Cotto has a lot of tools, but he would have to get a lot better footwork. Margarito doesn't stop throwing punches very often so clinching is difficult.

Margarito did more then people are giving him credit for. They may have been small things that you don't notice but his style works for a reason. Rewatch the fight, Margarito stays out of clinching range when Cotto is on the ropes. Margarito was throwing punches while Cotto was trying to clinch. Margarito knew when Cotto was vulnerable and took advantage which happened multiple times in multiple rounds.

                    • People need to learn to let things go. Cotto not only got knocked out but would have lost via decision. He is still one of the best fighters today, but he lost to margarito end of story, no rematch required.
