Margarito's Bodyshots, Nose Issue Was Cotto's Downfall

According to Jose "Joey" Gomez, the downfall of Miguel Cotto were the bodyshots of Antonio Margarito, and the busted nose that continued to bleed throughout the fight. Gomez, one of Cotto's cornermen and a close friend since they were kids, said that a Margarito uppercut busted Cotto's nose and they were unable to stop the continous flow of blood in the corner. Margarito stopped Cotto in the eleventh-round to capture the WBA welterweight title last Saturday in Las Vegas. [details]

It was pretty obvious those body shots were taking their toll as the fight went on, Cotto just got slower and slower until he couldn't move much anymore.

I'm not sure if they should have put medicine up his nose, it could have just made his breathing issues worse.

The meds were probably in an attempt to stem the bleeding, which buy the mid rounds was also pouring from his mouth too.

nothing to do with his nose. Cotto forgot his gameplan in round 7 and stood there and allowed Margarito to uppercut him in between his elbows

Im not making any excuses here, because the better man won and it was his punches that did the damage, but if this is true it stands to reason as to why he wilted so bad in the 11th. Like I said though, you can't take anything from Margs since it was his agression and punches that caused it.

I disagree. I've played sport with a bloody nose before and I know from experience that it makes breathing very difficult because the blood clots. This must have been at least part of the reason he was slowing down so much, along with the bodyshots he was taking of course. Cotto didn't forget his gameplan, he just couldn't execute it. Cotto could no longer escape Margarito because he was struggling so much with breathing. Those uppercuts caused the bloody nose and made it considerably worse in round 7.
