Cotto also moved around more and faster than he ever has, especially as the fight went on. All that adds up in the end.

like i said, he wasn't conditioned to box for 12 rounds against a fighter like tony.

yes, but what enabled margo to land those shots? the answer is, cotto had to rest, because he was tired from running around the ring and throwing a lot of punces. cotto wasn't used to fighting like that and it tired him quicker than i think him and his camp expected. so, he had to take breaks at certain points in most of the rounds and this is where tony was able to put in work.

^ And Cotto would've been much better off tying him up instead of resting in the open. The fight looks much different if Cotto does that.

          He'll learn.

Cotto never tried to fight going backwards for an entire fight and it exhausted him...true story. im surprised this seems to be over your guy's heads. it was pretty obvious to me that cotto was getting tired from doing all that backpeddling and such.

To his credit, Margarito made it a war of wills and nullified Cotto's skills. Miguel needs to learn the art of clinching, it would've greatly helped him at his exhaust points.
finally, someone makes a reasonable, and well thought out post. good job

I think the amount of time Cotto spent taking a breather on the ropes cost him most because he didn't give himself enough room to lessen the impact of Tony's barrages. On the ropes he was in no man's land when being pressured by a larger, stronger and tougher fighter like Tony. He should learn to control the pace away from the ropes without his stamina taking a big hit.
