It wasn't lack of stamina, those left hooks to the body shots by margo weakened miguel.

Margarito landed more power shots on Cotto than anyone had previously.

I think this had a lot to do with Cotto being broken down both mentally and physically.

I don't think it was Cotto's lack of stamina, Margarito's consistant pressure just got to him in the end.

Repeat this process and what you end up with is what we got. Cotto just didn't have enough in the tank as far as energy/stamina is concerned for this fight; even though that was the gameplan- to box for 12 rounds.

I think Margo had him bruised and battered, but IMO, at the end, Cotto just couldn't catch his breath, and decided to take the knee. I'm not trying to detract from Tony's win, that's not the point. But, I just think maybe Cotto and his camp underestimated how hard it was gonna be to box Tony for 12 rounds and thus, were ill-prepared.

It was plainly obvious Cotto was outboxing Tony when he wanted, but, problem was, he got tired from doing so, and this enabled Tony to capitalize on his gameplan by backing Cotto into the ropes and pounding away on him.

For all intents and purposes, it was a great fight. When Tony retires, they need to put his jawbone on display at the Smithsonian.
I thought he got lazy and forgot to move in the 7th

Freitas had no heart and was in a comfortable lead in the Corrales fight. He always quit when the fight got too rough for him and it really showed in that fight and his fight with Diaz as well. Cotto has plenty of heart. He just couldn't continue becuase he was just getting too much.

                  Cotto was altogether overwhelmed

He would stick and move and Margarito remained in his face. Throwing power shots and constantly moving to set drained him. When he couldn't keep up the circling he'd foolishly lead himself into the ropes and corner and play into Antonio's strengths. To his credit, Margarito made it a war of wills and nullified Cotto's skills. Miguel needs to learn the art of clinching, it would've greatly helped him at his exhaust points.

Yup. After the second round it hit me that this reminded me of that fight.

and the reason he kept getting hit with more and more punches was because his conditioning wasn't up to snuff. he would take breaks damn near every round because he was tired and that's when tony would pounce on him. cotto would catch his breath, spin out, throw a quick combo, and then move away from AM. this is what was going on for most of the fight.
