Cotto's lack of stamina cost him

That was his intent for this fight: to box.

But, he just wasn't prepared to box for 12, 3-minute rounds. He looked great, but would rest, and then Tony would start going to work. Repeat this process and what you end up with is what we got. Cotto just didn't have enough in the tank as far as energy/stamina is concerned for this fight; even though that was the gameplan- to box for 12 rounds.

I think Margo had him bruised and battered, but IMO, at the end, Cotto just couldn't catch his breath, and decided to take the knee. I'm not trying to detract from Tony's win, that's not the point. But, I just think maybe Cotto and his camp underestimated how hard it was gonna be to box Tony for 12 rounds and thus, were ill-prepared.

It was plainly obvious Cotto was outboxing Tony when he wanted, but, problem was, he got tired from doing so, and this enabled Tony to capitalize on his gameplan by backing Cotto into the ropes and pounding away on him.

For all intents and purposes, it was a great fight. When Tony retires, they need to put his jawbone on display at the Smithsonian.

yeah i see what u mean or u can look at it like this, cotto just couldnt handle all his punches, cus it wasnt like cotto wasnt punchin anymore cus he was tired, cus he was still landin ****in BOMBS !, nice clean, crisp punches !!!, i think the pressure couldnt be neutralized by cottos power, and margs power neutralized cotto towards the end of the fight.

I dunno if it was so much Cottos stamina as Margaritos. He has very good stamina, and his chin means he can just keep coming at you all night long and force the fight.

IMO, Cotto was warn down rather than out of condition. I think Cotto throwing so many power punches also contributed to it. Being undefeated and very confident, he believed those shots would pay off but they didn't. I also think he took the knee because he didn't want no more. Cotto also moved around more and faster than he ever has, especially as the fight went on. All that adds up in the end.

it's the body shots that wore cotton down.

Cotto's stamina is just as good as the best condition fighters out there. Margarito just showed an unbelieveable chin and the type of consistant pressure that i have never seen before. It was just his time to shine that night and he was not going to be denied. I though it was going to be the other way around, but boy did he prove me wrong.

I think he pretty much had a great night apart from ultimately getting knocked out he boxed like a dream.

It was Margo's constant pressure that beat him... he doesn't have a "PBF" kind of defense specially when he is on the ropes, he got tagged most of the time and all that back peddaling cost a lot of energy.

does this fight remind anybody of the Freitas and Corrales fight??????? Cotto was moving all night like Freitas was but got caught a lot towards the end of the fight, and it cost him.
