why would i be dreaming? i like both fighters equally. that's why i can assess it in an unbiased manner.Your dreaming and reaching for straws. Cotto would not have fought better, that's the problem. He fought a perfect fight, he dictated the fight from the outside on a bigger stringer fighter and was winning easily.
Cotto was landing the cleaner punches throught the entire fight and could not hurt Margarito. Margarito was giving him too much respect in the beginning of the fight and could have walked him down much earlier.
There's nothing Cotto can do to change the outcome in the future with Margarito. He hit Marg with everything but the kitchen sink and NOTHING...
In a rematch, Margarito KO's him in under 8, guaranteed. Will and heart go a long way and Marg's has it all day and there's nothing Cotto could do in the future to change the outcome.
Cotto recieved a beating.....
we just didn't see the fight in the same way and we just don't agree on the adjustments cotto would make.
no big deal. that's why we go on here to argue. we'll bet on the rematch.

You go out and fight the perfect fight. Dominating for the first 6 rounds and lose because your opponent can't be hurt by your best shots.why would i be dreaming? i like both fighters equally. that's why i can assess it in an unbiased manner.

Marg wins in the rematch easier than he did in the first one. There's no adjustment Cott can make unless he grows 5 inches over night and goes to the Wizard of Oz and get's a heart.Comment

we'll see feroz.
you'll see i'm right. cotto did better going forward. he just backed up way too much.
cotto's problem was he was too macho to clinch.
in the next fight he needs to popshot going forward and when he retreats tie marg up when marg goes forward.
it'll make it a more boring fight but one that he'll win by ud over antonio.Comment

he dominated 4 of the first 5 rounds and he DIDN'T fight the perfect fight.
he had the wrong game plan. marg will be the same in the rematch and a year older. cotto will change and be 1 loss smarter.
expect a lot of popshotting and holding and stalling from cotto the next fight.
it won't be as pretty but it'll get cotto the ud.Comment

Hey Tua how's it going?kinda harsh ain't it?
the guy took a lot of punishment , bud. look at his face.
as long as he recovers from this mentally , i think he'll beat marg in the rematch.
he fought the wrong game plan. i knew he would. that's why i bet everything on marg.
as long as cotto wasn't ruined (sometimes it only takes one fight) he decisions marg in the rematch.
cotto is a better fighter. the 1st half the fight proved that. marg was able to beat him through toughness and heart.
cotto needs to make a few changes and he'll be fine.
if they rematch hit me up. i'll take cotto in the rematch.
I might take you up on that bet.
It takes a hell of a lot to come back from a loss like that and be mentally strong enough to win the rematch.
Barrera is rated higher than Junior Jones in most people's eyes, but Jones landed the best punch he ever threw in a fight that Barrera was winning, and I think that affected Barrera enough that he couldn't win the rematch. Open up on the guy's body and risk getting hit with an uppercut, or play it safe? In the 2nd fight he chose to play it safe too often and lost. Mosley is in my opinion better than Vernon Forrest, but after that 2nd round of their first fight he seemed to be affected in the same way, and the rematch was a bit of a dud as Mosley wouldn't commit and neither would Vernon.
Margarito didn't just beat Cotto, he broke him. There was a moment in the fight when Cotto changed from feeling like he was unbeatable to realising that he wasn't going to win. Some fighters simply never recover from that moment.
If there is an immediate rematch, I'd bet on Margarito. If Cotto takes some time fighting a couple of other fights first, then I'd give him more of a chance.
Hatton kept trying against Floyd, even when tired, hurt and outclassed in every department. A guy with a loss doesn't do that as often. You had that thread about Zoo and Morales choosing to accept their defeats towards the end of their careers. They had tasted defeat before and so it was easier to accept it this time. Maybe if Morales had been fighting someone other than Pac, he would've got up. But he knew Pac would beat him if he did and so mentally that was it. I think that if things get tough for Cotto in the rematch, it will be the same story. He will give in easier.
You ever predict an outcome for a fight, and then when watching it realise that you should've known how things were really going to turn out? That's how I felt quite soon into that fight. I thought Cotto on points, but his natural style is not going to beat Tony, so he had to fight differently. The way he fought Mosley won't work though, because Tony is too big and Cotto can't hold the centre of the ring with his jab. Tony will just walk through it and push him back. If Cotto tries to stand his ground he will eat punches until he changes his mind.
How can he win? Maybe by throwing fast punches that lack power and then moving before Margarito has a chance to land his own shots, but I doubt it. Williams did it, but he tired late on and so would Cotto. The difference is that a tired Cotto cannot take Margarito's pressure, and I think he'd be beaten earlier without that feeling of invincibility that unbeaten fighters often have.
Williams also had a much longer reach than Cotto. Santos beat Margarito, but he came in 10lbs heavier on the night (170 vs 160 IIRC) and even then I think that the fight was going towards Tony the longer it went on.
Just rambling here of course, but I guess what I'm saying is that if Cotto is to win the rematch, he'll have to change his style and come up with a new way to beat Margarito that no one has tried before, because what worked for Santos and Williams won't work for him, what he tried last night won't work for him, and if he fights like he does in most fights he'll probably take even more shots even sooner...Comment

hit me up when the rematch gets made. hopefully it's not an immediate rematch and cotto can get a freebie win first to get his confidence back.
when this fight got made i predicted marg will win by tko in a slugfest and that miguel will win by ud after learning his lesson from the 1st fight. my prediction is half correct so far so i don't see no reason in changing my assessment of the two.
i just hope cotto isn't ruined by this fight.Comment
