Lets get this right... Jeff Lacy was going to be better than Roy Jones

Lacy looked like he was a buddin superstar, but not a guy who was destined for the HOF. He was gettin KO's and buildin a fan following, but he never did **** that made you believe he was gonna be an ATG.

Anyone who actually saw him fight pre-Calzaghe knew he was severely overrated. I can't tell you how ****ty he looked in so many of those bouts before landing the KO blow, a not always legal one sometimes.

I never saw Lacy before Calzaghe, and I believed he was this "defining fight" for Joe, but I remember wondering "how come I've never actually heard of this guy beating anyone?" Since then I have seen his previous performance against Pemberton and it is obvious to me that anyone who took a serious interest in boxing could not have rated him.

The Lacy hype was largely a result of American boxing opinion drastically underrating Calzaghe as another Ottke and assuming that the young American champ could take him out. Sadly UK boxing fans bought this hook line and sinker, including me. The whole episode is about as good a lesson about not listening to hype as you could ask for.
