Cotto-Margarito Tickets Not as Hot as Vegas Temps

Most of us realists called this from the beginning. Margarito vs Cotto will be huge among us boxing fans, but the general public isn't too excited about this one. Replace Margarito with DLH or Floyd, and you'll have a huge fight.

Yep, this is it. It's hard to accept as a fan but it is the truth.

The MGM put up the most money to have the fight. The Garden or Staples didn't bid as hard for this fight as much as Casinos in Vegas did. That's why the fight ended up being there. I think the PPV numbers will be high more than expected. That should make up for the lack of attendance.

Yeah, if tickets sell poorly it's the casino that loses not the fighters.

It's exactly the point... today you need a big force behind you... and this event which should be sold out shows you why boxers are going to Golden Boy these days. The money, the connection... I hate Golden Boy so don't get it wrong... but did anybody really doubt that if it would be an GB-event this **** wouldn't be sold out?

With that been said... at least I hope it has a good PPV number, it should have now, cuz all their fans staying home. But I guess this fight and the hopes for the fight are simply overhyped. This is not going to be a war. Cotto will go in and try to hurt him... if it ain't works cuz Marga can take his punches... he will not stand toe to toe with him and slug it out, cuz Cotto knows about his chin. So for the first few rounds it should be interesting. After that if Cotto can't hurt him... we will see the moving, boxing Cotto similar to the last few rounds with Mosley. I don't know why this should be a PPV. Margarito never showed that he can win the big one... and nobody knows him in the general public. So this PPV is a Cotto-PPV... and we will see how he is carrying it. Cotto's skill should provide him with a clear UD...

After that DLH... and Cotto is a made man... and if May comes back... he finally has the opponent your ppl asked for, and the oppoenent that brings him some money to the table... you see life is hard but still fair *smile*

I thought Margarito's Mexican following in California would've been pretty big for this fight. I mean Cal to Vegas isn't that far.

Wish it was over here in the tri-state area. $500-$600 for me and bro is a lot more durable than $1,600-$2,000 in Vegas.

Yeah, do to the weather most tourists don't come here during the summer.. Believe it or not it's actually one of our least busiest times of the year so you know everyone downtown that night will more then likely be fight fans.

The Casinos have been hurting do to the economy as well and employees having been getting many hours.. I'm sad to here this about the ticket sales not going so well but whenever there is left over seats.. guess who gets free tickets?? hopefully I get a phone call again asking me if I want to go to the fights!! *crosses fingers

I think that's part of the reason,but i think the biggest reason is that Margarito is not a draw And Cotto never been a real big draw.Just look at his PPV for Zab ,it did`nt even break 200,000 according to GLeon.

And the Mosley fight did a lot less then expected.

I Always thought that Cotto/Margarito fight as well as the 2nd Corrales/Castillo fight should have been on free HBO.

If sales for this gigantic fight are lukewarm, then it means only one thing, that boxing promoters need to learn how to promote again. That is, they need to learn how to promote without HBO or Showtime doing all the work for them so they can collect their percentage of their fighters' dollars with minimal work.

Like it or not, admit it or not, but organizations like the UFC remembered how to promote fights. Boxing promoters have forgotten how to promote. Which makes you wonder why they are getting paid in the first place.

That a fight of this magnitude, that could end up fight of the year, is not generating sales even in this economy...don't let boxing promoters blame it on the weather in Nevada.

I hope this fight does amazing business, because it deserves it. This is what boxing is all about, the best fighting the best.

Promote s****te,Cotto robotic personality and Margarito lack of english and exciting fights kinda limits their exposure.
