If Lewis unretires to fight somebody... that's about it. America, and most of the world for that matters, have very little interest in the HW division right now.

With a whole lot of hyping and Peter looking impressive and Wlad doing the same they could maybe get close to that in a year or something.

I bet if Tyson makes a rematch with Holyfield it will go crazy with pvp sales. Although thats not happening.

what you say is partially true, and i know that you're a fan of wlad's. but because wladimir cant draw large audience that logic doesnt apply to all fighters

a lot of boxers in lower weight classes do pretty good numbers.
Oscar is as american as an apple pie. Everything about him was an "american dream", some ethnic pretty boy winning a gold medal for the US and then making it in the pros.
And he was promoted as "mexican" exactly for the reason to advertise it to the mexican american market.

        Capische?

Wlad is very big in Germany though, obviously Eastern Europe as well.

          But I understand your point.

And Danny Williams is huge in Anorak's dreams... there's a niche market for everything if you look hard enough.

no, not capische, the thread was asking whether today's heavyweights can draw PPV numbers, the answer is obvious. wladimir is the best now, but his opponents dont offer the same credentials. his last performances werent eye catching. a lot of people were upset. nobody will cash out if the public is not satisfied the first time unless something can be done to convince them otherwise.

as far as oscar, one of his first most notable fights was with Felix. now i now aside from them being 2 undefeated welterweigths there was also a mexican vs peurto rican feud going, as they have had rilvaries in the past. the advertisement wasnt matching an american against Puerto Rico.

i dont understand this logic. Just because the fighter is not american doesnt mean that american audience wont pay attention. unless he's a nobody then more likely yes. but is he's properly promoted than why not? the problem isnt in race or wallet. if a fighter is exciting and can fight then people will watch.

Yeah, but I doubt Annie can make a 500k buys, germany and england, however, for them it is possible.

That fight will have to be marketed really well though.

Just stop it, it went over your head.

This simple logic just escapes you, PPV is an american thing, thus it can only be bought by americans(I am not talking that PPV is impossible outside of America, just that it is now done only in America). Both Trinidad and DLH were big stars, however most of trinidad's fans were puerto ricans, and the targeted audience for the fight were the puerto rican americans(because they can actually buy the PPV) same goes with Oscar, who had large viewing audiences, but many of these were the mexican americans.
Now, do you understand that Oscar was largely marketed to mexican americans because he is one of them. However, Oscar IS an american.

I think if you give David Haye a tv show, and get American venom against him because they will think he sounds elitist, then get some blue collar american guy with a sad story (from a steelworker rust belt town) you could market the crap out of it and do more than 500k.

                      But alas, who is there?
