socialism is something rich countries can afford. poor ones cannot.

people need to learn from history. the soviet union epitomized socialism for 80 years and where did it get them?
Really? So is America a purely capitalist country????

Whats Social Security, medicare/medicaid, tariffs, wellfare, farm/industrial/banking subsidies...etc..etc..

While agree that the most competitive people should be paid what they are worth, I as well as the American public believe that there should be Socailist based policies to insure the wellfare for the common man... Now I dont know how you **********s feel but some people do fall between the cracks of the almighty capitalst system...

And, yes, if you read carefully to what I said, Capitalist economies evolve and as it expands and gradually rises so follows the human condition... Rome was not built in one day, you know.

corruption is everywhere but there is different levels of corruption.

in america they bribe officials. our officials steal. big difference.

in america if a bridge gets done a company may bribe the official and the people end up paying a bit more for the bridge than they could've if they got the best deal but the bridge still gets made.

in philippines the officials steal the money to make the bridge and the bridge never gets made.
You really think all of Japan's industrial base was destroyed... Come on man, they had the ability to tangle with America and arguable drew to a stalemate for most of WW2.... Did Philippines have the resources, industrial base, and down right know how to do that?

MacArther merely transformed Japanese war plants into privatized industries...ie cars, motorcycles, radios etc..etc..

And the aid Philippines received, where did that **** go for the some 30 years??? Think shoes...

And even before that, do you really think America would have left the sovereignty of the PI at the hands of Filipinos that really wanted full autonomy when the 2 largest bases outside NorthAmerica was already in the PI?? So, for years even before Marcos, CIA intervention in PI politics was severe and influenced corrupt leaders into office...

the u.s. destroyed a lot of japans industrial capabilities.

i think our people would have been better off not getting our independence. we wouldn't have our own country but at least our people would've been better off. but that's just my opinion.
